Post by 66SIX »

I traded a China bike I got to use some parts off & $100.00 and got a old Spree .
I saw a post on this site from Sheldon and he did a great job on one of his .I hate to be a copy cat
but it just looked so good . I think I am going to enlist my Spree .

I can tell you right now that that air filter will make your motor run like crap and most likely melt your piston from being to lean. Unless you know what you are doing with tuning the stock air bos and filter arethe way to go.

Bear you are 100% Right . I have taken the carb off 3 times . and put it in soup for a day . Then clean clean clean blow everything out after the second time I put that filter on (1) for convience and (2) I was able to spray starting fuild directly into the filter , and it looks like it might be comeing off again Every time it gets a little better
I did see a tool on this forum it was a set of different sized wire to clean out jets Sometimes its just that one stubborn clog that messes everything up .OK I will take it off and clean it one more time and try the smallest pin I can find and do some pokeing around .
But thanks for the good advice I am just to lazy to mess with the stock air cleaner ... let me get it running then I will put the real deal on ...
Here is a pic of the bike with the air cleaner I had to use a peice of hose and its a real tight fit so I am using the K&M cleaner .

If you are using starting fluid to start your engine, it is bad for two reasons. First, it has no lubricating oil in it and washes any oil already there off, a bad thing at best. Second, if you get a crank case full of the stuff, and it doesn't take much with ether, you can have it explode in the crankcase and blow your reeds. 2 strokes and ether are a no-no. Besides that these engines start easy enough when everything is right. Oh and that aftermarket filter will cause hard starting too.

yeah, you will have a * of a time getting it to start with out the right filter and box on there.
make sure to check the pilot circuit (can see a pin * of light through it). a number 11 guitar string works good for this.

Hello Turtle As soon as I read this ,I thought that would probably save me a lot of time . I have heard about using a guitar string before but I guess I just like to do things the hard way . Instead of 11 I might as well get 12 and attach another 6 .... You talked me into it I will stop by a music store today . I know it will save me time in the long run . Thanks one more question on the #11 string acoustic or electric ?
