Sexy Rexy Minarelli drag scoot "Non Honda build" ;)

Post by tru72 »

Well been wanting to build a different bike for along time, Finally got the opportunity to do so.
This is what is called a SMC Rexy. The manufacture is Taiwan. The motor is the closet thing you can get to a real minarelli. Alot of "Jog style" look like a minarelli but this is the closet to the original.

Image

Pulled off everything to start from scratch
Image

Swapped off the heavy disc front for a way light set up, since our track has such a long stopping area the lower powered set up works fine.
Image

Used kiesler stretch mount, wanted it longer but for now this will work.
Image

Had to do some changing and welding to get the right angle and height but it work!
Image

For My fuel set up im using a oko 28 carb and a Stage6 straight back manifold. I was afraid for the to steep carb angle but my friend Ottoman said his is steeper LOL!
Image

I figured just in case it didnt work to my expectations i fabricated a adapter from a CT black intake to get a more straight angle .
Image

Put on the plastics to check the front end height and other clearance issues that might be apparent..
Image

Took the seat apart and mounted it straight to the side panels, and trimmed them down
Image

Mounted it, braced up the front area as well
Image
Image

Solid shock strut
Image

Started doing the glove box plastic area, door will not be used. Radiator will go into there
Image

All clean and ported , Malossi bore on this sucka! 77cc
Image

Hebo crank
Image

PVL gnition set up
Image

Stage6 rear facing intake with Vforce reeds
Image

Motor mounted with a malossi full variator set up, rear over drive pulley and gears
Image

Stage 6 r1200 pipe
Image

Figured Since the carb was at such a extreme angle , had to get the gas tank as far above it..
Image

fill er up!
Image

Made some mounts for the radiator in place of the glove box
Image

This was the first water pump set up i did
Image

Eating lunch i looked at it again and decided that the pump wasnt designed to be in a upright position, so after all the work i pulled it all out and redid it hahah!
Image
Image

Set up all my cables and wires
Image
Image

Fast paint job, spray can masta! Ready to rock and roll!!
Image

Just like to thank some people that made it come together..
with out friends from all over the world its pretty hard not be thankful. Who said christamas doesn't come early!
Ottoman - thanks for da stuff! with your help this project wouldnt have gotten started
Michael & Julien @ Maxi Scoot. Yes your new team rider from Hawaii wil be representing you here well!!

Two things, Like what you did with the carb, that first setup, the angle was too sever.

Second, did you take picture taking lessons from Wheelman. You are close to having his style down.

Oh oh another argument :naughty:
Why is the carb angle too sever?
He is running a Stage 6 manifold made for that application... I have run a Kiesler manifold for 2 seasons with no issues... its how its designed to be used....besides its a much straighter shot at the reeds at these angles.

The float level will not work properly at that sever an angle and anybody that thinks so knows nothing about how carbs work.

Taken from the Mikuni VM Tuning Manual (bible):
"Mounting angle fore and aft inclination of the carb should not exceed approx 20 degrees from horizontal."

Yes bear & Wiguy. i was thinking the angle was crazy as well, but upon further snooping around on the european sprint sites i see most of them are pretty steep. Thats why i modified that spigot to get the carb to sit way straighter, i had the same thoughts. Of course im going to test it a few times first with the way stage 6 set it up. It runs fine so far, im just worried that on the top it might starve. I also made sure that my gas tank is about the carb to get the most help with gravity in keeping that thing full. Tweaked the float as much as i could as well. I figured if it worked for ottoman and they was running 9.5 with it then it must work :) Im going to add my extended bowl nut as well just to keep more gas in there.

The tapered-needle-type carburettors with concentric, central
float chambers have a horizontal main barrel and can be
mounted up to a maximum inclination of 40 degrees from the
horizontal (figure 3).

Yea bear my carb doesnt work right... lets see... starts good, check... idles fine, check... runs mid 9's in the 1/8th, check.... good plug readings, check. I must be missing what it doesnt do right

As always bring yours to the strip so I can race you with my non functioning carb and we will see who is right. :hi:

For sever angles they created diaphragm carbs because they don't care what angle they sit at. Oh and what source do you have for this 40┬░, since Mikuni says half that and I would agree with them. * that is what carb wedged spacers are for, to keep the carb close to level.

Remember this is a drag only application. High end racing components push the limits to get maximum results.
The steep angle is there to promote air flow into the reeds and crankcase.
Like Tru I wondered about how it would run but unlike some I try things out to see how/if they work rather than just immediately dismissing something.
So I tried it and it runs fine.. no issues over 2 years of racing

And I repeat this manifold is sold for racing and is designed to run the carb at this angle based on a lot of testing, its not something I just dreamed up

Dellorto says 40 degrees max
