Progress has been slow...Spring is seemingly busier than usual....I did get the intake and carb mounted today. The swap has been a long time coming, but is an easy finish for tomorrow.

The day ended late , but the scoot was very happy. With the oil hose primed, the float bowl filled, pod filter on, mixture screw at 2 turns open, a dash of premix in the tank, Miss Ruby struck a chord that was music to the ear. The first ride was maybe 4 blocks. Felt much quicker to accelerate. Later, I rode for maybe 15 miles...the improvement in mid-range most definite, the note of the carb throat very sweet. One short blast down the parkway saw the speedo reach new numbers. I've proven the speedo is noticeably slow, but exactly how much at 55 mph I dont know. Top speed before the swap was 48-50 indicated. Now the spedo hits 56 indicated. Actual speed is closer to 65mph. I will try to get a loaner GPS this weekend to nail it down.... :urban:

Ruby rolled over today 3,000 on the odometer...did 62 miles through some twisted, swervy county roads with the neighbor aboard my trusty Elite 80. During the ride, we got caught in rain. Pretty good downpour. My K & N pod filter got wet for sure, but I never felt the first hiccup.

Today I passed through Louisville, Ky...you know....where they make "Louisville Slugger"... :thumbwink:
Seized the opportunity for a photo...120 feet...since you will be wondering how tall this bat is.

Only a matter of minutes after snapping the previous pix in Louisville, Ruby shredded the drive belt and coasted hopelessly to the nearest shade: a canopy of a former Dog-N-Suds just south of town on US 31W.The next 3 pix are taken at the "scene of the crime"... I made some phone calls trying to score a belt. Instead, resorted to calling for a pick-up. After tagging the handicapped sign, I peddled down to Al's Bait and Beer about 100 yards down the road. There I sat and watched the history channel w/locals of similar age and interests enjoying a cool refreshing bevvy. Turned out to be quite pleasant. The remains of said belt I will shoot pix of and edit this post later... :urban:

Motormike; great progress dude... I've read the entire thread-

I wished I would have known you passed thru Louisville; I would have met you somewhere! I live in Lexington, but I'm only like an hour away and I'm always going to Louisville...

Anyways, congrats on adding Ruby to the family!!

Later, -j

Thanx for comment ghost...
The Mikuni has been loads of fun...the belt was the original and did'nt stand a chance of making a 250 mile trip...should have known that...
The belt I have substituted for temporary will not last very long. It's new, but all wrong in dimensions and has already shown signs of overheating on a brisk 20 mile shakedown. Slippage is evident. I am forced to postpone a ride that was planned for today, Monday (memorial day).... ...Intended to do 100 miles in memory of my father, something I started last year on his birthday.
Rock-on jon...I may call you for some help Tuesday... :hi:

The 2nd annual "Herbert" ride did take place with some abbreviated distances. Final mileage traveled was 60 miles instead of the 100 I had intended. The new belt on Ruby performed adequately under the given circumstances...I backed off the throttle quite a bit and maintained a more sedate pace than planned.... :eyeroll:
The group was reduced to 3,..myself, Anna (ladyfriend), and Matt (neighbor).
While I do not approve of malicious and willful destruction of property, I have engaged in some harmless "tagging" of signs with the hondaspree.net stickers that I have left-over for the purpose of exposure and fun... :naughty:
