Fall Project Black

Post by Smile »

I just thought Id document and share this fall project of mine "Black"
(DIO Converted Honda Smile)

Started of with a blank canvas, a JDM Honda Smile frame (Japan version of the honda spree) and a wrecked Aero50 frame.
Chopped off the smiles motor mount box and also chopped off the aero50 motor mount box then welded the aero50 motor mount box to the smile frame. Reason why I did this? The aero50 motor mount box is much more sturdy than the smile/spree and most importantly to have a center stand.

I robbed the shock mount bolt off the aero50 the relocated and welded it to the spree frame.

Took the aero50 motor mount, cut the tongue out, flipped over the mount, then shortened the mount and relocating the bottom pipe of the mount to the left then welded the tongue and bottom pipe. I shortened the mount so that motor will clear the rear fender by 1/4 inch and ped will have a lowered stance to it.

Ive decided to make this a beast of a ped...55mm bore x 52.6mm stroke, did a test fit and noticed pipe hitting the frame so I cut a notch in the frame then welded a piece of pipe from the aero50 frame then I reinforced that side of the frame with some mild steel.

Just spraypainted all the areas on the frame that was welded, Finished most of the major engine work and slapped it into the frame.

Cleaned up the ol Bull Pipe, used krylon bbq black spray paint then torched it. Wrapped the header with some exaust wrap, did this because pipe is very close to the plastics, will also put some insulating cool tape on the back side of the plastics thats near the exhaust.

yeah it was a pain but it was well worth it, I can now utilize the centerstand and not use a brick when doing engine work

Thanks motormike, yes it was my intent to keep it looking stock, I dont like cutting panels and i dont like the rear tires touching the rear mudflap like other dio spree hybrids. trying to make it a sleeper but this 125cc motor with scorpion pipe is not helping it out lol

Is that the same side stand as the elite one? Or is the mounting bracket different?

Nope different one this sidestand is specifically made for the smile, bolts on the floorboard rail. very similar to the honda pal sidestand but shorter
