So here is my build:

50mm Tai BBk
26mm OKO Carb
V-8 pipe
Mixed gas 28-1 for break in

I want to keep this on topic if I can manage so I can have a decent beginners reference. I just put the basics on tonight it took about 4 hours, half that time was figuring out how to remove the elite plastics with out damage. Enjoy thanks for all the forum members who helped me select parts.

Well guys it is very very different with this kit on even with it running very rich. I cant wait until I can get on it hard. Right now the stock gears on in it I ran out of time tonight but maybe its best to break it in with shorter gear anyway. It should reduce a bunch of load.

At some point you may want to go back and match the boost port, if i am not mistaken the 50mm kit has a larger boost port for the dio motors opposed to the small elite port. Personally with that kit since its better to match the boost I would pop in at least a ministroke crank while i was in there :D ON the other hand I believe there are several people on here that have run this kit without matching the boost without any problems

MAKITA rock man, I love em too. I bought them just for this project, and future ones. I did not match the port for now, I would like to make corrections as I go and note the changes. This should be a indepth build. Once I have a tach I think it will be interesting to see what rpm increase a boost port match will do. Once I got my kit, and saw what all the noise was about witht the boost port I decided it did not look as if it would impare the engine much to leave it. It is not like the air is hitting a wall which would happen if you put a af16 jug on a af18 case. So time will tell, I msy be going against the grain a bit. But thats how I roll, curiosity never killed this cat. It may have ruined a few projects though. :hi:

You can get away with not porting the boost port on the case if you were going to run the stock exhaust. But if your going to run that v8 pipe, the boost port will need to be matched.if not the cylinder will run hot and possible seize. The boost port helps with pushing the used air/fuel out the exhaust.

The 26mm carb is a round slide item and I did not know that OKO made them. But hey, I never claimed to know everything. I have a 26mm round slide carb but it is a Keihin just like the stock carbs.

Thanks for the details, that makes more sense.

Can anybody post a link to a good stroker crank kit for the af16 that does not require milling the case.

Mini stroke is the only type of crank that no need to cut the case. You have a 43.2mm one and a 44.1mm one. The 43.2mm one lines up better for the 50 and 51mm aircooled bores. Ebay from autotech355 or jiangwayne. Those are the 2ab cranks. Then you have the ruima ones but don't get the one with the inserts. Those are known to break. Find the non insert one.

id go with the 43.2 mini stroke, i have 44.1 and its been kicking my * since the day i put it in. hard to get port timing right and prob have to run a few head gaskets to keep compression down. shorter stroke would reduce the need for multiple head gaskets, unless you like having to re torque head down every mouth to make sure they dont leak.. u can always buy thicker head gasket, but making cylinder to tall makes plug chops hard need to cut more out of fan shroud, and harder to get pipe aligned. to me it was nothing but a hasle for the .9 mm difference...

Thanks for the input you 2.. What jetting sizes should I order to tune this carb(26mm oko)? I got the tach in today, what a great tool to really dial in your a/f for idle. Wow, I am loving this.
