Flash 3.26Q
Greetings:
At 81 hours and probably 1800 miles on the Corsa top end, it's probably time to pull the engine off and up into the Boudoir for a going-over. Da808NanoSpeed sold me his ADV muffler as I'm looking to see how much if any loss of performance goes along with Civilized noise levels. My OKO carb has begun to tinkle through the overflow drain, a little and I need to see what that's about. Already ordered a rebuild kit from TreatLand.TV, suspecting an embrittled float needle and maybe a ham-fisted Wheelman misassembly with a kink in the o-ring. Also would like to try to pressure test the block if I can summon the Gumption to procure the necessary plugs for the exhaust flange and figure out how to hook up my Mi-T-Vac. There seems to be a minor oil drip coming either from the exhaust flange or at the cylinder base gasket to investigate. Also a hankerin' to true up the notoriously leaky CT manifold joints, although liberal gasket greasing may have made that a non-issue. I know it'll make power lower down on the RPM scale than the high-flying PG. My Q for the Cognisenti: Going from PG Short (which ain't short on Noise...) to the ADV which has a V8-ish design and a 28mm flange diameter, how much of a downjet and how much heavier than the 32 gram vario load do you predict?

Greetings:
The good news is that I can drop the engine, carry the saddle bucket, front cover, exhaust, tool box and the engine itself up to the climate-controlled comfort of the Boudoir - all in less than 30 minutes. The bad news is the dirty oily and shabby state of Flash's mighty Corsa heart. The other bad news is that I'm all outta exhaust gaskets. Fortunately the O'Reilly Hub Store in Deepinnaharta can have a set of VW gaskets here by 3PM tomorrow. Meanwhile I plan to disassemble and have a poke around the various leaks I suspect, swap to a smaller Pilot and maybe Main, add a few grams to the Vario load, and generally R&R the engine. 82 hours of run time and maybe 1800 miles without a hiccup - not even a plug change, althouth the HIX looks like it's been dragged through mud. I do have a new one of those. I wonder how much of my new weird-starting issues were due to that old plug? BTW that's a 669 belt on the ZX pulley that hit 71.2 on 7.58 gears. Take-off is abit soft, but nowhere near as bad as with the 654. Still, not much to complain about in top speed.

Greetings:
Well here's one of the drawbacks of running Stupid-Rich:
The top of the piston had some carbon deposits, but the head did not this time. There was some wear at the R flank - which did NOT catch the proverbial fingernail. I scrubbed the carbon deposits with a soft-wire brush, and reassembled.I noticed that the green Viton of the O-Ring had actually stained the mating surface of the cylinder, but the ring itself didn't feel deformed or shrunken at all. I'll torque it down and get a compression reading.
Today I pick up the VW exhaust flange gaskets and test-fit the ADV pipe. Hopefully the Treats OKO carb rebuild kit comes tomorrow and she gets bolted back in.

Well the case seam and the cylinder base showed no sign of being the source of liberally-sprayed oil on the starter motor, cylinder fins, wires.... so I bolted the top end back up.
The ADV pipe fit perfectly - no "Tweakage" required. Got Gaskets from O-Reilly's Vintage VW Collection. Liberally slathered the fiber parts with HD Grease - the process always proves worthwhile. Oh yeah, there's a pair of crushable metal O-Rings that fit precisely into the recess in the exhaust flange. I stuffed it in behind the flange gasket proper as a test to see if I could EVER get an exhaust flange that didn't spray oil. I doesn't crowd the port or header apprecibly. I torqued the nuts down to 12.5 ft.-lbs., enough to bend the "ears" on the pipe a little. We'll see.
Last thing yesterday was a compression check. Tried without reed block first - got 120. With Reeds: A solid 130, so the Corsa's still in the ballpark. That was withOUT adding any oil into the plug hole.
Before retiring for the night, I weighed my current vario load of Daytona rollers - thanks S4Patrick! -at 30 grams. I had a new set of Polinis I dropped in for a total of 33.5 as a starting point. Also, out came the 46/125 Pilot/Main and in went a 45/122 combination. Anticipating power at 9K instead of 10, so smaller jets than those too-rich items shouldn't be too much of a risk. ( )

Greetings:
Well, got 'er buttoned back up with only a tail-light ground wire causing a mystery for a while. It seems I let the assembly fall and tug the wire bundle - seems to have happened before - quickly remedied.
The ADV is a whole lot more civilized than the PG Short on the noise issue, particularly at idle. However there's still a shrill Bark-ette with the throttle applied, and I have to apply throttle to leave the Casa parking lot at 7AM. It's a little better though.
Low-end is WAY better than before, allowing for some jetting and the added vario load. It actually wanted to Wheelie, sith 7.58s at that! There's a little less Lust at WOT, as I expected. It was too dark to read the tach, but it felt like my Vario wasn't quite yielding the revs the pipe needs for Max output - not sure if it's spinning too fast or slow yet. In any case, the speedo needle disappeared about as quickly as it did with the PG, so regardless of Peak Speed, it's Good Enough. Good price on this pipe too. If DaNanoSpeed offers some more of these, you know what to expect.

Re: Flash 3.26Q
Greetings:
Flash fans will recall that I dropped to 45/122 and low end was better. After a longer errand ride, about a mile from Casa Wheelman, it started to miss. Sort of like running out of gas, but responsive to throttle changes. Smelled and acted hot, although the temp gauge, which I don't completely trust, remained under 300. I pulled off, it restarted - no seize- and ran another half-mile only to do it again.
I swapped the 125 back in. It's possible this ADV flows More, not less than the PG SHORT. Otherwise im at a loss to explain the leaner behavior. Allowing something unrelated I screwed up, I'll see if it does better with the 125.
