85 spree build 80cc elite swap

Post by jeph »

i recently picked up a spree for 250 that was beat to s***, it was used as a beach rental so it was full of rust and sand, but raqn and drove great and hit 30mph no problem with 10k miles on it lol.

i had a 80cc elite layin around with no title so im gunna put that swap on the spree but have a few questions, someone before me had put fan screws in that were so long the went into the stator, would that have anything to do with me not getting spark? also will a stator work off any other scooter?

mocking it up

this is after i cleaned some of the rust off and took off the harness to re wrap it.

Greetings:

Yes the wrong length of fan screw will completely ruin your stator coils. Replacement with a stator from the same model - if not the same year - is necessary. Yes it explains sparklessness.

so it is hard to find a used stator around here so before i go buy one brand new, i tried the stator off my stock spree motor it bolted in and has spark when i rotate the motor, my question is has anyone else ever done this? and is my timing gunna be off if i use the 50cc stator?

i diddnt get it to start i just seen if it sparked.

will post more pictures soon of how it sits, im happy with the results though it fits well and only things i have to mod for all the plastics to fit is exhaust and shorten the part where the carb mounts to the intake manifold.

i bought it and spent $20 on the stator. i got lucky but now its running. i bought the mounting bolt from lowes and swapped the front tire off the elite on to the back. now i just need to get something to mount the mirrors to, a battery and hook the lights speedo and rear brake up then it will be "street legal" oh and a muffler ive been riding it to my mail box and it launches faster than some cars
