It's been a while. Something different - 1984 Honda Gyro

It has been a while since I posted. I delivered a 1984 Honda Gyro to my customer in Raleigh, NC yesterday to add to his collection. I figured I would share the photos and the recovery since this is one rare machine. It was fun to get it up and running for an extremely enthusiastic owner.

Anyway, here are some before/after shots. The wheels were the biggest issue. They were rusted pretty bad and needed to be blasted and repainted. The plastic was polished with a light compound using a buffer. Delicate!!! New tires, new grips, some new stickers and a fresh coat of paint on the basket made this scoot look great. I also painted all the black plastic pieces and mounting brackets. It came out great! What a fun little machine to ride also.

The customer also sent me home with a 1986 Honda Spree Limited Edition to do some work on also. He's got quite a collection of scoots! Stay tuned for some info on that bike.

What a nice ride that gyro is. I so wish I could find a gyro here in my neck of the woods. Sprees are rare enough here let alone a gyro. I'm so jealous ;-)

Greetings:

Drip-drip-drip. The sound of Honda-san's tears of joy falling softly in the ground below his grave. Awesomely-tidy restoration! Put it in a museum?

I don't think this one will be museum bound. The owner uses all of his scoots with his kids riding around the neighborhood. It would be a pretty good candidate though.

I don't recall what he paid for the Gyro initially. Between the parts, sticker recreation/production and labor the resto work was over $1400 if I remember correctly.

The '85-86 Gyro handles marvelously...eats up the corners... :thumbwink:
The '84, not even a comparison...it is horrible.
HUGE difference in the geometry of these 2 machines... :urban:
