it was on the parts bike

me and my friends drove to Indiana end of last summer and bought it a parts bike really cheap
than down to Indianapolis for a 1 owner elite 520 orig miles
never registered by the original owner stull had the Certificate of Origin and original bill of sale
original cost $1699.00 +89.95 tax will need to start a thread on this one
I probally paid more for food and gas than for the parts bike

the parts bike and the 2001 elite was originally bought by a friend of mine
than he decided to sell them to me this winter

more on this bike in another thread

pipe is finally done polished coated ect
but it is 40 degrees out today and the roads are wet
and if you are from the north it is pot hole season here ( need to be care full riding )
so it is one of the nicest days in a while
took it for a short ride
all I can say is more to come when the weather breaks

The pot holes are horrible here in St Louis, I know I bent the rim on my 89 today. I just dont remember the wobble pre pot hole/half pipe.
Scoots looking great!

ordered rpm gage < need this
and 128 / 125 jet <had a 125 but ?
there were a couple of other runs
but this is what I remembered

the pipe has good pull through crusing speeds
hopefully with more tuning I can go faster than my 70 mph run
more to come
Paul

tried a 130 same settings as last run jet temp 295 max
and got the devel for speed 66.6
EDIT 4-18 14 all runs also with stock JJH needle in carb
with clip at middle setting

Seems like you always have really low max temps. Curious if you think a smaller main would work better.

Greetings:

BBowler makes a pertinent point. Your 355 max temp is just barely in the heat Zone where you're getting all the Corsa's got. You want to watch the Rate of Rise above 350, expecting it to taper off just at or before 400F. The output will increase as you approach that temperature. (And plummet precipitously if you exceed it by much... as it seizes).

Ironically, the cold temperatures make the engine run Hotter - heat production exceeds the additional cooling effect of the cooler air. Because cold air also contains more oxygen per unit volume, it can result in best performance if you jet up to match it. As the temperature warms, you will feel less power if you keep the current, moderately too-rich jetting. But be careful and make small changes - always watching that temperature gauge for sudden heat spikes.

was just going for a joy ride
than someone on a moped pulled up next to me

thoughts so far
pros
the pipe revs really fast
gets to speed quickley
lots of pull for passing traffic
gets a lot of attention how it sounds going down the street

cons
revs fast higher revving =uses more gas (expected this)
9000 rpm at 35 mph loudness makes it sound like you are going faster
has not gone over 66 mph yet
a lot more tuning required than the pg shot
revs faster and higher = more wear and tear on motor

roller weights on order 5.3 \5.5\ 5.7\gram

turned 11040 rpm

some of this will sound like rambling
but it shows something dosent add up

put all the old tune in it
phongeer short 125 main same gearing ect
just to see rpms did one quick run
65 mph 9700 rpm

with the arrow it spun 10900 to 11040 rpm
and turned 65.5 65.0 mph

max speed 65.0 65.5 and the sharpe marks on the variator
showed it went as far as the phongeer ( but does is stay all the way out)

I think the yellow contra spring
lets the vairator go all the way out on initial takeoff
but on sustained run I belive the yellow spring ( I am using now) dosent let the belt
stay at the top of the variator

here is why I think this

1200 to 1300 rpm diffrence at the same speed ( dosent add up )
1200 more rpm divided by 8.5 gears =141 more revolutions of the tire
so the tire should have turned 141 times more (if the trans stayed all the way out)

3.0 x 10 tire each revolution travels about 45.5 inches
45.5x141=6415.5 inches
so it should have travled 534.6 feet more at that rpm

if the trans would be at the top of the variator on the runs
the bike should have traveled app 1/10 of a mile more because of the higher rpms
which means the higher rpms should add up to more speed because of distance travled (which it dosent in my case above)
this is why I think
the rear contra spring is to tight and pushing the variator back down on top speed run

1320 feet 1/4 mile
5280 feet is a mile
520 feet is 1/10 of a mile

The temp of the belt plays a large role in sustainable structure. Nice collection of data!
