Greetings:

Pic-less Sunday test ride. Temps stayed between 364 and 396. The highest temp wasn't at WOT, but cruising at 50 or so. Needle up one, methinks. RPM maxed at 364 which on TinyTach means 10, 364, after about .35 miles wide open. Speed was still climbing, but I let off to check temp and blink cold tears away. Still under 2 hours on the bore, not sure it isn't too soon. Garmin-Girl said 64.6, not bad.

Greetings:

Remounted the Scorpion. Main jet went from 150 to 152. Variator load dropped to 30g, 1500 Tai spring. I decided to try the Bando 654 belt.

The first thing I noticed was the jump off the line was much more of a struggle compared to my 660 Metro belt, which hugs the rim of the rear pulley at least an eighth closer. The engine four-stroked a little with sudden throttle at lower to medium speeds, something it didn't do with the PG Short.

I ran it WOT for about a minute in a quartering tailwind. Temp reached 437 at one point, dropped to 420 and stayed above 400 on the highway for most of the ride. Speed topped 65, but there just wasn't any more.

I'm putting the Short back on. It's dang near as fast, but a lot quieter and seems to run cooler, with better low end.

Yes, RPMS above 10.4K. I didn't like the temps either. Sharpie marks erased almost all the way to front pulley rim, so maybe gears need to go back to 7.58 for best speed. Now running 32.5g.

HI WM.
make sure you have no air leaks between head & pipe gasket. your malossi loves to rev. I would get a second opinion from Red Eft before you pull the gears. :imo:

eetings:

Dry as a bone at the exhaust flange - no trouble there. It's a Fabrizi, not Malossi, but yes it seems to thrive above 9800. The exhausts I have don't resonate very well above 10K however. This thing has so much more drive than the MHR or the Corsa that I wonder if 8:1 would be faster. The belt Overdrive seems to go to Max, or real close. More Tunin' n' Testin' to follow.

HI WM.
something doesn't seem right. there are lots of scooters going over 66mph with the 8.1. have you checked the belt? worn out? or it may be too long. and not sitting all the way down in the rear drive. mark both drive pulleys with marker. give it another test. also what was the rear center spring again? it may be to strong for the belt to go down into the pulley? I like to use 1000-1500 for top speed. I'm 170lbs. but it should not matter over 200 if you have a long road or use the highway.
good to hear the fabrizi has the power. you just have to get it to the rear wheel.
also a 1/8'' more in the rear drive can mean a few more mph. I'm thinking 68+.
if all else fails get a malossi counter crank if you want to go over 70mph. and keep everything else the same.
or try the 7.5 if you have the power. without losing take off. :imo:

Greetings:

Thanks, Ped. The Malossi crank is already betwixt the cases. The same Met belt - yes it's a little worn now - went over 70 on a good day spun by the Corsa. My Sharpie marks are erased almost to the edges of the Drive Face - and down pretty far at the rear as well. It went no faster with the standard 654 belt, so I don't think that's the main issue. Spinning well north of 10K with the tranny fully shifted - the Contra is a brand-new yellow +1500 - and seeing only 66 with 8.44s suggests that the 7.97s might be a better choice. Then again, Baka-san and others have gone much faster with the same gears. We may be back to Aero resistance due to Double-Wide Wheelman frame. I do need to replace that belt and fiddle with jetting a bit more.

If your turning 10.5k rpms ,go with the 7.9 gears. Higher rpms like 11.5+ you can use the 8.44

Greetings:

I am really liking how it rips off the line with the Met belt. Maybe going much faster is over-rated, but I'll keep trying with a new belt (for more Overdrive) and perhaps a better pipe to see if I can coax out some more RPM.

HI WM.
you have the malossi crank. Now I know something is wrong. and it's not the DW frame. on a good day with no wind you should be at 70mph.
your pg short should be fine. a v8 will do too.
a new belt and jetting is a must do for top speed. :thumbwink:

Greetings:

Put in the new Gates Metro belt. At 18.07mm wide compared to worn-out 17.84mm Bando, it's more than 10% wider. I've never broken a Gates (despite the Made in China label) but have more confidence on Bando for sure. Eft, you still have some Malossi ZX belts hangin' around?

While I was at it, I swapped the 155 back in with the needle leaned out a click from center where it was with the 152. Hopefully I won't see any more 430s on the CHT. I also parked my inline fuel shut-off for better access:

Thet-thar's a Gin-You-Whine Briggs & Stratton mower shutoff poking through a 7/8" hole-saw hewn hole. Sadly yes, that is a Zip-Tie holding the valve out from the skirt. Nothin' but the best...

I may have a chance to take a check-ride tomorrow. More to follow; Stay tuned!

Did you check compression? If to high for pump gas it will make your motor run hot.
