'86 Aero build. 60mph?

Post by Cam-V53 »

I picked this Aero up from my buddy a little while ago and it blew the top end so now it's time to build it up to see if I can get close to 60mph out of the AF05E motor that's in it. So my buddy put the CMR bbk in it from vtcycles along with a after market clutch spring but I don't know what one it is. It sat for about two years or so before I bought it off of him. I just ordered a Malossi bbk from red eft and it should be here tomorrow. Today I put a stock Ruckus variator in it. I will try and post pics of every mod I do. Here are some pics from today's install of the ruck variator.

a dio gear swap conversion would be a great help in getting to 60 mph .Giving you a wide range of gears to choose from .

Ya that would help, but I'm gonna try and stick with all stock cases. Even if I get close to 55mph I would be happy with it.

Greetings:

See if RedEft still has the Malossi primaries for AF05 block. 16/32 for a 7.83:1 final drive will get to 60 with tuning and an SP-3 or better exhaust. Mine got to 58 before I went AF16.

Ya I was looking at those gears. I'm thinking I am good on the pipe I got the Malossi Wild Lion pipe on it now

Also my BBK showed up today from RedEft. Keith is a stand up guy and gets his product to you in no time. Still waiting on a wrist pin bearing and I'll be ready to put that in.

Well I broke a piston ring today trying to put the new BBK on. Hopefully I can get new rings for it. If not has anyone ever tried to run a single ring on a piston that is suppose to have two? I know it probably won't last as long but will it work?

Greetings:

What Aero big block is 62cc? If'n it's a 47mm piston, the tally is 58cc. If it's bigger, please share its source and a link if you have one. Whatever the brand, I wouldn't second-guess the two-ringers. The design calls for two rings, and it probably won't work well with a single if it works at all. Why risk the cylinder and your crank and bearings and the rest of your build for want of a $20 ring?

Next we need to have a talk about your ring installation technique. You sort of have to step the first ring down in stages. It has to seat in the top ring land, then walk it over from there into its bottom land Final Destination. If you try to jump it all the way over, it's likely to break. These things is brittle! If you DID install it in this way, even more reason to share the kit's provenance.

I got the 62cc malossi kit from red eft. I had the rings in the cylinder but it wasn't lined up correctly so I was trying to turn the cylinder and the bottom ring broke.

So another problem I ran into is the reeds. The reeds that came with the Malossi BBK I got (part #316405) are different then the reeds that are stock on the bike. Do I have ti get a different reed cage in order to run these reeds? The stock has two reeds and the aftermarket ones have 3 reeds.

The reeds that come with the kit do not work on all Bikes. aside from the european models im not sure if they fit any of our US bikes.

Maybe someone else knows.

The 3 petal design works on the af16, I'd just get some boyesen reeds and be done with that area. No other reed block works with out an adapter, are you going to run the stock carb? You're going to be hard pressed to hit 60 on stock gears, the malossi gears work well but you're going to be pushing off from a start, but you'll hit 60 with the right tune. The wild lion is a good pipe for the af05e with the malossi kit.

Im going to be running the stock carb for now. I plan on getting a bigger carb with more tuning capabilities later on. I figure even if I get into the mid to high 50mph range i will be happy. Most the roads I ride on are 40-50mph but everyone always drives faster than that. Plus it is going to be a daily rider. Not too worried about getting great MPG's but I need it to be somewhat reliable.

Greetings:

You can keep the stock (or ported?) manifold and still get a nice carb upgrade befitting the 65cc Malossi and Wild Lion. Euro sites may still have Amal/Arreche-for-Honda 17.5, 21 and 24mm carbs that bolt up on the stock flange. Replaceable everything, quality carb, even uses the stock cable and Bystarter. It was less than $100 as I recall, but that was 5 years ago. I got my 17.5 at Scooter-Center.com in Germany, but wished I'd bought the 21. Good luck!
