DIY Stretch mod

Post by whitey »

I'm ready to stretch my stroker and seeking any advice before doing so. I blasted a doner mount and I have some 1" square stock ready. I thought I'd cut the mount where it's parallel in its middle and slip it inside the tubing and weld the edges. Any things to consider before I have Johnny weld it?

Hi Whitey. The mounts tend to flex a little. I think you may need to add a piece of metal on the top? careful not to weld near the bushings they will burn. :imo:

I did my cut where it's straight so that when the back half is welded back on it has the same turn down as stock. I did this with both of my mounts. Also uses square stock but put it inside of the mount. If you cut in the right spot it's a perfect fit. Image

I would highly recommend finishing up the welds all the way around. There is a lot of stress in those areas and you have open spots that should be 360 degree welded.
