1998 honda elite upgrading

Post by davmad »

I bought a 1998 honda elite a few weeks ago and it only went 35 downhill. I've been searching the forum since I got my scoot and I found the parts I needed. I tore into the scooter once I had my order placed I was super excited to get things up to speed. The parts I ordered are
- malassi cast big bore kit
- naraku black manifold
-24mm polini carburetor
- Polini variatior
- dio 9.8.1 gear set
- pg long pipe
- trail tech thermometer
- blue throttle cable

I have pictures I can't seem to get them on here because the file size is to large. I've installed everything but the variatior and the gears. I started her up this morning and it was running ok. I haven't blessed with the carb at all it is how it came. Here's where I'm running into trouble with the scoot. When it was running the idle seemed to Rev some on and off without me touching the throttle also when I pressed on the throttle it took 30 seconds for the engine to Rev. I'm thinking it's the carb but I'm not very experienced. My temp gauge said around 328 that was without the exaust shield or plastic housing. I will post pictures when I figure it out also I'll be posting all my progress through this build :D

Can use online photo hosting or resize with an app if you got a smart phone. If it's surging at idle you might have an air leak. Mine did that and it was the intake. If it's hesitant when you hit the throttle it's probably rich. Welcome to the addiction.

Well I figured out that I didn't have the throttle cable hooked up right so now the throttle will work! I'm trying to get the engine to run smooth right now it's kind of rough the engine looking like it wants to shake off.

Greetings:

That port must be capped, or linked to an oil injector or a vacuum line for the auto-fuel valve. You will need to bump up the throttle stop screw, and probably re-evaluate your jets to much leaner. That port's been the main source of air for your low-speed riding until now. Don't worry - I've done the same thing.

I'm running a 35 pilot and 110 main as soon as I plug it the scooter dies I'm running 32:1 and it has a good amount of smoke coming out the pipe. Is the throttle screw on the side of the carb?

I use mine with out the cover. Think the cover is mainly for wet riding.

I use mine with the cover and this is what I've tuned it too. I believe it makes a difference for tuning with and without.

Greetings:

Right you are DeanP! couldn't use the cover at all with 82cc Flash 7. The difference is like 4-5 jet sizes - those little holes create substantial negative pressure, particularly with larger displacement.

Well I ditched the air filter cover (it doesn't have oil on it I'm not sure it matters) I have a 108 main jet and a 38 low jet it's seems to be Ideling ok and it runs good. I've tired so many different jet combos. I plugged up that small hole on the intake. My temperatures are around 275 idle
