Wrong oil! TCW stands for "Two Cycle Water cooled" and is totally wrong for an air cooled two stroke. Water cooled engines run at about 140┬░ (at least that is what all the marine manufacturers run for a thermostat) and that is what the oil is made to operate at. Air cooled 2 strokes run hot, like 200┬░ to 250┬░ hot and your TCW oil won't protect there. You need an air cooled formulated oil.

Anywho, my 9000 mile spree has been sucking down Royal Purple full synthetic TCWIII for three years and 4500 miles, and unless the rings were replaced before i got it, they are origional. my jug still has beautiful cross-hatching.
Methinks the wrist pin needle bearings are getting a tad sloppy, resulting in my beloved "death rattle" the engine makes. i'll blame the oil for that.

or for those w/o adobe, a paraphasing;
"NMMA TC-W3 ÔÇô two cycle water-cooled, third generation. TC-W3 obsoletes TC-W & TC-WII. Oils with this spec do not use metal based additives, and are ashless. This is an outboard specific spec.
API TC ÔÇô only API spec established for two cycle engines. It regulates lubricity, detergency, ash content & pre-ignition. Oils with this spec are typically using metal based, ash producing additives.
JASO FA ÔÇô original spec established regulating lubricity, detergency, initial torque, exhaust smoke and exhaust system blocking.
JASO FB ÔÇô increased lubricity, detergency, exhaust smoke and exhaust system blocking requirements over FA.
JASO FC ÔÇô lubricity and initial torque requirements same as FB, however far higher detergency, exhaust smoke and exhaust system blocking requirements over FB.
JASO FD - same as FC with far higher detergency requirement.
ISO-L-EGB ÔÇô same tests and requirements as JASO FB.
ISO-L-EGC ÔÇô same tests and slightly higher detergency requirements (piston varnish) as JASO FC.
ISO-L-EGD ÔÇô same tests and requirements as JASO FD.
ÔÇó National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is based in the USA.
ÔÇó American Petroleum Institute (API) is based in the USA.
ÔÇó Japanese Automobile Standards Organization (JASO) is based in Japan.
ÔÇó International Standards Organization (ISO) is based in Europe."

Too bad that the API never gave any further ratings requirements for the U.S.
i bet gn2 is a JASO FD oil...

i also bet that Royal Purple exeeds the minumum requirement of the NMMA.and most of the other ratings.
though i cannot find which rating GN2 conforms to, the website selling it sayeth;
"Pro-HondaÔäó GN2 is the only oil that has been tested and approved by Honda R&D for use in all liquid- and air-cooled 2-stroke Honda motorcycles, scooters and ATVs, including the PilotÔäó and Odyssey.Ôäó Its unique clean-burning formula reduces exhaust smoke, carbon buildup and varnish deposits, and helps prevent spark-plug fouling, ring sticking and exhaust plugging. GN2's superior lubrication extends service life for piston rings and bearings, and helps protect against rust and corrosion."

Spiffy trick they got there, using the same oil for liquid and air cooled applications both. Honda-san bows before no rules or principals.

The only thing that counts is "GN2 is the only oil that has been tested and approved by Honda R&D". It sounds like Honda refuses to test anyone else's oil. Which means their claim is toothless. If you only test one oil, you can only have, at the most, one oil that is approved.

Klotz.. in just about everything i've ever owned that requires premix. Its gotta distinct smell.

Firewood sunday....aint nuttin like the smell of Klotz after a big hot cup of coffee and a fresh home rolled cig! lol

Good question, i run the maxima 927 but never questioned how much castor is in it. Maybe ask manufacturer.
