Honing cylinders

Post by joeweir1 »

I wanted to hone the cylinders on my scooter, but not sure what people are using?I have a small hone designed for car brake calipers but it will not work since the stones are small and get caught in the intake and exhaust ports. The larger auto hones look like they will not be small enough to go into the cylinder.Any help would be appreciated.

There are smaller stone hones, just honed my cylinder a few days ago. Try google or take to cycle shop and have them hit it.

those type of hones tend to chip the intake and exhaust windows. Use a flex hone.it has a bunch of beads on it and it great for these scooter cylinder. If its a stock cylinder use the 1 5/8" 240 grit for just taking the glaze off.if you got some scratches that can be felt with your nail or finger thats not to deep use the 180 grit. After you hone it use either 600 grit or a green scrub pad and lightly scrub the wall of the cylinder to knock down the burrs that the hone leaves and wash good after.don't forget to lightly oil the rings, piston and cylinder wall before installing.
