Hi all
Here are the symptoms :
87 se50
hard to start
smokes (if it starts)alot
bogs at throttle up
let off gas,then dies
this is what I've done to it:
rebuilt carb and cleaned it well including dismantle completely and 3 dips in
an untrasonic cleaner
#88 jet
uni 2 stage filter
decarbonized muffler
new exhaust gasket
replaced vacuum petcock with manual one
I've checked for air leaks nuthin, except:
The oil pump wiggles in its bore!
Could this be whats causing my scoot to * all over its self ?a massive air leak?
Anybody chime in ,please. Your 2 cents worth could save my a**.
Thanks Skip
could this be my problem ?

The oil pump has an "o"ring and should not wiggle. If it does, yeah you have an air leak and it should be leaking oil and fuel along with the air.

Hi all
Manual petcock, easier than it sounds. All I did was get a $20 manual petcock at local scoot shop, the inlet is 1/4 pipe thread male end and the outlet has a 1/4 barb fitting. Now how it is attached to the tank, I went to home depot and got a 3/8 female to 1/4 female adapter.Took off the vacuum petcock, (drained tank of course) and flushed the poopoo out of it with the garden hose for about 10 minutes. Set the tank on the ground and applied a little flame to it, still got a little whoosh of burned off fumes.Gotta be carefull here!!!!! I cleaned the petcock nipple on the tank and the 3/8 end of the adapter, coated them both with flux and screwwed the adapter onto the nipple, WARNING! the nipple is metric, don't freak out, the adapter will screw on but will be a loose fit. I tried silver soldering these two together...don't bother there is something about the steel alloy that doesnt take the solder. Leaks. My next step was to clean all surfaces off and I used slow set jb weld, thats the ticket.Coat the threads real good with jb weld then screw em together, build up a fillet around that joint let dry for two days. then install your petcock...and your ready to rock. Pics up soon.
Remember, I did this on a 1987 SE50, so your sizes may be a little different.

Why not just get metric fittings?
