MY 85 SPREE WON'T START!!!!!!

Post by kr467 »

OK 1st off let me just say that i am new Honda spree owner and i have no clue about the bike. I just bought the buy last week off CL for $100 (is that good or bad) the previous owner said that it needed a new battery, starter solenoid, and, start plug. So i purchased all of theses items and thought i would be riding by now (1week later) but im not. its with a amateur mechanic rite now but when i had a real mechanic come look at it he said that once i got theses items i would be riding. I am not. When i start it (electric start 85"s have no kick starts) it sound like its trying to start but maybe the spark wont catch. turn over. It just wont get to that last stage to start. When i didn't have the starter solenoid it just use to tick when i tried to start> now that i got it NO TICK!!! but still NO START> but it sounds like it trying real hard......plz help i need solution quick!!!! plz call me or email me if u have solution 502-650-6140 or staxxk@yahoo.com.......thxxxxxxx

hmmm well it sounds like the engine is locked up. you may be screwed. :werd: :nervous: well i would take off the clutch cover and see what it looks like in there. see if you can turn over the engine. see if the clutch looks ok. how is the belt?? download the manuel too.

So, it's turning over? Are you getting spark? Are you getting fuel? Carb probably needs cleaning.

If you aren't getting a spark, check wiring. There's lots of it. I fussed with a Spree a customer brought me 2 weeks ago getting it running and after changing the flywheel, CDI box and the coil, I came to the realization upon inspection that I had a broken wire. The black/yellow one going into the coil fell out when I unhooked the coil itself.

If you need parts, let me know. I got lots of them and I need to get rid of them so the price will be right for any budget.

If you aren't mechanically inclined, first things first. Download the service manual from the appropriate section.

The single most common problem that causes Sprees to not start or run poorly is a dirty carb. They're easy as pie to take apart and clean, and pick up an in-line fuel filter from your local auto parts store. Add it in the line going from the fuel tank to the carb.

Good luck with the Spree. It's the best place to start to learn how to work on a scooter.

This may sound silly. But, is the switch turned to on? (handlebars and key) could be a bad coil.

Will the bike start on carb cleaner? If so, problem is still in the carburetor. These things have a tricky idle circuit in the carb and if it is clogged, it won't start easily.
