That's hard to read. I'm just sayin'.

Tell us what you are working on. Also, what fixes have you tried, and how did they work out?

ok so ive put together an 87 spree pulled everything apart cleaned sandblasted the engine cleaned up and ported the intake on the case and reed matched the intake tube along with that i used a 89 elite upper end ive checked compression which came out good i checked to make sure the timing was right the keyway was in place for proper timing i know its getting fuel the petcock valve is is not working correctly but its free flowing fuel not shutting off im planing on replacing it but it shouldnt have an effect on the the carb not getting fuel and too much wont happen because of the float in the carb.... i did pull apart the carb cleaned it and made sure the passages were clean. the oil pump teeth are ground off because im running premix it acts like it wants to start smoke comes out but it seems like it dosent want pop although it did back fire like a 22 going off im kinda clueless on why its not running along with others ive talked too. please a some ideas would be awesome thanks

How much compression do you have? You said it's good but did not give a number.

Backfire Was the Clue

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

So you have fuel to the carb and compression. The reeds are closing?

That leaves spark and timing. Plugs can go bad. Change the plug and ensure that the spark is happening at the right time and it will run. The little black pickup box must be located so spark occurs near TDC. The SB and NQ flywheels may differ.

Why won't this thing start?

It seems like a timing issue to me.

The plug does spark.
Smoke comes out of the exhaust when it is cranking.
It backfired very loud once while cranking.
comp is at 140psi
Gas is flowing from the tank freely ( the petcock seems to be stuck "on")
Running premix. the oil pump gears are ground off.

I will give one million dollhairs to whoever figuers this one out.

Could the spree pipe be to retrictive to let it start?

Smoke puffs out the pipe.
