Spree Belt Problems?

Spree Belt Problems?
Hello,
I have an issue that I think may be drive belt related. When the bike is cold (first 2 miles or so of first trip of the day) it almost feels as though the "transmission" is slipping once I hit 20 mph or so. Once she is warmed up, there is not a problem. Does this sound like a worn belt? If so, any help on a replacement belt that I can find locally at a pep boys or some other auto parts store?

As a rookie I should probably let the more experienced crew respond, but I recently had a similar problem and will pass along what I got as advice - if I get it wrong, someone will jump in I'm sure:
The correct replacement belt (if you do not go through Honda) is an AX24 notched belt. If you need it immediately, it can be found at almost any industrial supply store, otherwise, it can be ordered from many places including Amazon at a very reasonable price.
That being said, the slipping can also be the result of other issues like a weak clutch spring, etc. Certainly, a new belt is an inexpensive effort and a good thing to try first.
If you search posts by me (user breaze) you will see some very good responses from the big boys on this problem.

A 24 in. x 1/2 in. belt will also work

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
That's exactly what an AX-24 belt is, but it is an industrial grade belt and is cogged for the tight corners around the pulley's.CHEVY-212010 wrote:A 24 in. x 1/2 in. belt will also work

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
is there a tighter belt to use ?
Re: Spree Belt Problems?
When it comes to belts, tighter is not always a good thing. The AX belt is slightly wider which accomplishes the same thing as shorter.john wrote:is there a tighter belt to use ?

A cogged belt will work better and last longer.john wrote:i know this may be stupid but does it have to be cogged ?
I did find a non cogged belt for $6 that worked OK, but It would only last one summer at most.

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
yea im running my 48mm bbk and taz gears and only hitting 25, and i know im slipping somewhere, and it may be clutch pads are worn or the belt, and im thinking that with a non cogged belt there would be more friction since the added rubber, thus less slipping.

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
I don't thing the non cogged belt helps with slipping issues.john wrote:yea im running my 48mm bbk and taz gears and only hitting 25, and i know im slipping somewhere, and it may be clutch pads are worn or the belt, and im thinking that with a non cogged belt there would be more friction since the added rubber, thus less slipping.
Do you have a pulley mod done?
What year is your spree?

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
an 86, no pully mod, and the standard 2.50 tire on the back.
whats the pully mod does this help ?

Re: Spree Belt Problems?
i mean i believe u mentioned you were getting 34mph, with yours (48bbk)?
when i hit a dip or a bump when riding i decelerate, with a wide open throttle, so i know its slipping, even when accelerating i can feel it catch and slip, but with the 48bbk its hard to to tell what top speed is, but i know it sure as **** better be over 25mph after dropping $230 into it ( gears and bbk)
