Honda elite 80 variator questions with pictures
93 elite 80 variator
All the rollers have a flat on them. Can these be rotated or do they need replacement? See attached photos.
Clutch has an o ring along with back plate. Clutch internals are all greased. I thought scooter variators shouldn't be greased. Is this model an exception?
Any suggestions for different weight rollers?

OEM they came greased. This is not necessary. Yes you need new rollers.

Re: Honda elite 80 variator questions with pictures

PS3 it only does everything.
Re: Honda elite 80 variator questions with pictures
No that is not needed, it's a grease cover so no grease equals no cover.mopar4u wrote:martynkim wrote:OEM they came greased. This is not necessary. Yes you need new rollers.

Does the grease cover act as any kind of restrictor? Any benefits to running no grease vs. running grease?
Anyone happen to know the size and weight of the ch80 rollers?
Re: Honda elite 80 variator questions with pictures
Ask for rollers at your local scooter shop, bring an old one for reference. They're the same dimensionally as several of the GY6 clone motors. I think they interchangable with the Genuine Buddys.mopar4u wrote:Anyone happen to know the size and weight of the ch80 rollers?
Stock roller weight is 10g. The engine will variate from low to high around 17mph. Try lighter rollers if you're a bigger guy. I run 8g rollers on my CH80; it variates at 27mph, takes off quicker in traffic and still tops out in the upper-mid 40s.

With it things are held in so if you take it off nothing will get lost.evilone wrote:No that is not needed, it's a grease cover so no grease equals no cover.mopar4u wrote:martynkim wrote:OEM they came greased. This is not necessary. Yes you need new rollers.

Carefully taking parts off will result in no missing pieces. There is a ramp plate, rollers, and slides. I'd hate to see you tear a carb apart...screws, float, needle, jetstoad772 wrote:With it things are held in so if you take it off nothing will get lost.

d*** Im confused,
If I choose to go no grease do I need the grease cover or not? Does the greese cover also double as a top speed restrictor for the ramp plate?

Re: Honda elite 80 variator questions with pictures
Greetings:
Take the grease cover off and leave it off, running the new rollers dry. Yes, it may restrict variator travel, if only a little.
I recommend you round off the sharp corners of the ramp plate - the part in the upper left of your pic. That way when the rollers travel to the edge, they won't get shaved by the sharp edges.
