you're an idiot.

the ket numbers are going to be on the outside metal housing of the ignition, like bear, and other members have stated plenty of times before. LOOK WITH YOUR EYES, not your mouth, or in this case, fingers that hit those little keys.

well if he connects the 2 wires together, there's no point to get the number, unless you solder the wires back on to the ignition. so if you pull the wires, you pretty much flucked it up

The number is partially covered by the mounting bracket at the back of the switch where the wires are soldered on. It will be a letter followed by 2 numbers and possibly another number. The one I have in my hand is "B01A". For an admitted "know nothing" you sure are positive that things are not there that are there. :eyeroll:

actually bear, the b01a is the id tag for the aero80 if i'm not mistaken.
both mine also have that number
the number you need to get your keys cut is under the mounting bracket.

here's what the ignition looks like when you get it off(mostly, this is from an aero80).
Image
take those screws off to remove the mounting bracket

here's the key code. it tells the key maker how deep to cut each valley and how high to make each peak.

heres the ignition from my other aero80 to show that the key numbers are different, but the ignition id is the same

Thanks for the photos :thumbwink: You guys are always 'workin

Edit: Just got an email from 'plankton - I'm likely to be incorrect on a 4 digit alpha numeric code for the 50cc scooters. Here's a Spree Ign switch. The stamped 6 digits as 'plankton makes sense - if in doubt - take our ign switch into the dealer (or ask 'taz :) ).

i did some research, this is from a BMW site, but its the same idea.
The deepest cut is denoted by a 1. The last item is a O (letter) which is the series. Starting at the top and going down, it makes sense. The 1 is a deep cut, almost to the slot. The next cut, a 2, isn't as deep. Next is only a very tiny bite out of the metal and that is a 4. Then we have another cut equal to the second cut, another 2. Next is no cut, which is a 5. Thanks to John Blankenship for his correction
just, honda has different codes than bmw. like mouse said, taz knows his stuff. maybe he'll explain in-depth

Since I don't have an ignition switch with a key to it out to check, but the last letter and 2 numbers looks like a key number to me. I've got keys that start with an "A", "B", "C" and a "D" with two digits after the letter. Can anybody confirm or deny this?
