I recently took out my oil pump and replaced it with an oil pump plug. I want to sell my oil pump but I am not sure if it works, since the guy who I bought the scooter from had been running premix and not even using the oil pump because of a big bore installation. Before I took it out I ran the scooter with oil in the oil tank to see if it worked but I could not see oil squirting out. Also, when I removed the pump I noticed that the shaft that is turned by the crankshaft can be easily pulled out of the pump with my hand. Is this normal? The pump is from an af16e.
Thanks

Re: oil pump
It does not squirt at all, ever. The amount of oil pumped is miniscule, maybe 1 small drop ever 5 to 15 seconds.

Re: oil pump
Greetings:
The pump shaft is easy to remove and re-install in its little socket, that's normal. The pump exudes, doesn't squirt, as Bear indicated. Remember the engine's spinning that little worm drive pretty quick when the RPMs hit 8K. There's a substantial reduction because of the worm drive, but 8K is pretty fast. It's a drop every few seconds at idle, but I'll bet 'tis a pretty steady stream at speed.

Re: oil pump
You could but you will add crankcase volume which you don't want. Just get a $10 plug from VTCycles or make one like trafficjamz did. Forum member Limp1144 (i think) is planning on selling plugs too.StrokedSr wrote:guys...now that gear thats on the inside of the oil pump..would i be able to remove that gear and put the pump back in to keep it sealed and jus block of the nipples off the pump? and run premix that way?
