MMS. Does your engine block have two or four bolts attaching your intake manifold?87se50p wrote:af05e and how do i send pics from the phone to my email i dont have mobile email on my phone

Re: 87 se50p problems
Greetings:
The 1985 Aero came without a kickstart, but all subsequent Aero and Elite models were equipped with a kicker.
The '87 engines were similar to the '85s except for two other details:
1. The '85s had a 2-bolt intake manifold similar to the SB50 Elite "E" models, and
2. The oil pump lacked a throttle-controlled oil pump with split cable.
As suggested above, a previous owner may have replaced a blown '87 Elite engine with a good '85 Aero mill.
It is also possible that a broken '87 belt cover was replaced with one from an '85 Aero.
Check for these details.
As for the Start/Die issue, the fuel system is the chief suspect. Old fuel and vacuum lines can deteriorate in 23 years. Crumbs of rubber in the float valve or a leaky vacuum line can shut off fuel flow.
The best solution is to replace all the lines on principle. Make sure the vac line clamps are snug.
If the problem persists, remove and dismantle the carb for cleaning. Inspect the fuel tank and vacuum petcock for rust and/or sludge. A new float needle might be needed. Do check the air filter element for crumbling foam too.

Greetings:
Quoth 87se50p:
I suggest you procure the correct filter element, oil it and install it. You may find the scooter runs at least a bit better.
Quoth 87se50p:
In that case, this may be your problem. The carb's Pilot circuit is sized to run with one. Without a filter, it may be too lean to sustain combustion. Add a bit of resin on the walls of the Pilot, and it becomes leaner still. Colder weather exacerbates the problem further, as there is "more Air" in colder weather for the already lean conditions.i actually dont have a airfilter atm

Re: 87 se50p problems
Place a WTB ad here on the forum if you want a honda OEM box. You can get a K&N filter but you will still need to rejet, if you get a Honda box, you will not need to rejet.87se50p wrote:it has four. also i can't seem to find a place to purchase a air filter like the whole thing do any of the k&n filters etc. work?
