1996 Next Zone Jogg

Post by bmccaffry »

Hey guys I just replaced the final drive bearings on my buddies Yamaha Jogg. Everything went accordingly and put back together. He was driving it for about an hour the other day when he lost power and saw oil leaking on the road. He limped it over to my house and I saw the transmission screws had all backed out about halfway on the cover??? That didnt make any since to me. Im assuming loctite is a no no but didnt know if anyone else had seen this. His clutch bell ( which a new one is ordered) has a slight wobble and isnt true and he claims to not know what caused it. I had replaced belt, clutch pads and springs and center spring already. Would the vibration alone from a not true clutch bell be enough to cause the screws to back out of the transmission housing>?

Yeah i took it all back apart again...checked the bearings and gears since he about ran it dry and they were fine. So when i put back together i tightned extra hard. Its phillips head not hex like the elites to I turned as hard as i could with a screw driver. I hope when I put this new clutchbell on it cures the issue.

I just changed jog gears yesterday.

I wondered why yamaha whould use phillips head screws on the trans cover

They didn't. Sounds like someone replaced it with wrong screws. They only screws that's phillips is the heat shroud and airboox screws .
Nothing like getting stroked!

Number 16 and 17 are def phillips. Everything from the outside shields to the trans cover uses Phillips pan head screws. Not saying I agree with it but thats what this Jog uses. 1996 jogg next zone cy50

On my Jog motors they are all Phillips as well BM.. LOL I hate them with a passion. I replaced most of them with allen heads or 6mm screws.

never had that problem on any of my personal jogs or any jog copies that comes thru the shop as well. I took off the allen head bolts off what is called a Rexy here. Taiwan copy of a jog motor. Been a very reliable bike for us to sell. I personally use a little sealer on the gasket as well as some blue loctite for good measures. Better to be safe than sorry and of course a good tightening never hurts!
Have fun!

All of my Jogs (cg50 and cy50) have come with #3 Phillips head screws. All of my bug eye Zuma's have come with hex head screws. I don't remember what my Vertical Zuma has.
