Quick-Start Suck Saves Starter

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

The remote vac line under the seat is plumbed to a "Y" above a 1-way valve. Scooter last started on Thursday. Time to test. Removed helmet from under seat; why not pop the plug and give the line a pull? Started in 3 spins!

I use two check valves for my priming circuit. One prevents pulling air in from the carb/airbox when you're trying to prime. The other is used as a sort of mouthpiece. It only allows air to flow out, which allows the "manual" vacuum to operate the fuel valve.

Once primed, and started, the running engine vacuum operates the fuel valve and the "mouthpiece" check valve automatically prevents air from entering the system and causing the lean mix problem.

I did it this way because it's a girlfriends bike and I really didn't trust her to plug the priming tube with a golf tee or something each and everytime. It could be a costly mistake. This way it's automatic and convenient. It also prevents water, insects, etc. from entering the system and is easily replaceable for about 3 bucks.
