Wont start after setting a few days
If I let my 85 spree set a for a few days it won't start just turns over.If I unhook the air filter tube off the carb and put my hand over it starts right up.Do I have a vacuum issue or a by starter issue.
Re: Wont start after setting a few days
Could be either.

Re: Wont start after setting a few days
Test the bystarter by the manual or use Wikispreedia if you prefer.
I doubt that you have a dirty carb.
Make sure the bowl drain screw is sealing properly.

Re: Wont start after setting a few days
Greetings:
I'm with Martynkim on cleaning the carb. If it starts with a hand over the bellmouth, it's because it can suck fuel from the main circuit or whatever carb circuit is still functional. The bystarter and/or Pilot is likely gumming up.
The Emulsion Tube is a little Swiss-cheesed brass affair that goes into the Main tower under the main jet. It can become cemented in there and all its little holes get blocked.
Consider buying a gallon can of carb cleaner at the autoparts store. Disassemble the carb and put the parts into the little basket in the can overnight. Push the emulsion tube out carefully with a wood or plastic pusher.

Well, I have had this issue before and that is what I did. The problem was cured. Although, it is possible I fixed something by mistake.

Bystarter is easiest to check, but it could easily be a low vacuum issue, but they bystarter is easier to troubleshoot.
If it did this every time he tried to cold start it, I might buy the dirty carb, but it only does this if the thing sits long enough the drain the float bowl, not a dirty carb or it would do this on every cold start.snappy wrote:If I let my 85 spree set a for a few days it won't start just turns over.
