Engine Transplant

Post by benjammer112 »

Is it possible to Transplant the rear swingarm from a 1987 elite se50 to a 1990's (last digit is ripped off on sticker) elite sa50? everything looks almost exactly the same, but i just want to be sure before i try and do it.
i ride so fast that my scooter flies into the sky and i rain chocolate on the little children.

Greetings:

IF the SA50 is a 1990-1993, it should be exactly the same. If the SA is a 1994-1999, there may be some minor bracket bushing diameter issues fixed by pounding in ones with the matching diameter.

You may however be subjected to some Forum derision if you're installing an '87 SE/05 engine into a later SA/16-equipped frame.

Dude! Swap in an Aero!!

thank's so much, but is there anyway i could tell what year the sa50 was by looking at the scooter itself, like any changes in design?
and also the reason im doing this is because i have 2 elites sitting in my garage, the 87 runs good n all, but i would love to have the storage that the sa50 has, and it has a better looking front display.

Except for color and Bold New Graphics, the SA50 frame and hardware didn't change much. You could check the VIN - someone here has the Secret Decoder Ring. Another way to distinguish a '93 from a '94 is to check the underseat bin for the spark plug access. It's riveted shut on my 2001, but must have been open-able for the models with the centrally-located plug - I.E: the 90-93.

Greetings:

Should be a bolt-on swap in that case. Occasionally Honda-san specifes a different electrical connector in the next model year, but I'm betting that's plug-and-play too.

you have to change the stator from the 88-93 to the se motor. the plugs are different.if you dont have the tool to take the flywheel off then just cut the connector off and reconnect.
Nothing like getting stroked!
