Petcock Problem ?

Post by ute »

So when the Spree sits for 2 weeks or longer it won't start because it is not getting any fuel .

If I remove the fuel line from the petcock and try and start it no fuel comes out of the petcock . If I give it a gravity feed of fuel in a bottle it will start and the petcock will pump out fuel .

After this I can hook up the fuel line and the Spree runs and starts like a champ .

I replaced the filter in the petcock with a new one .

Any Ideas ?

This is what I did to my Spree. Remove petcock and fitted earl AN fitting. This method will eliminate the need to use vacuum to open and close the valve in the petcock. I have no issues with this method and will never go back to using a petcock. Just my .02 cents.

Someday................. There will be a tank of gas under your scoot. I suggest keeping it empty as possible if you go with this.

What would cause it to do this, a bad carb/float, a leak or bad line? The original owner has modified it this way and its been going strong for 8 long years. In that case I will add a shut off valve when not being used for long period. BTW, I'm a gear head so I tend to catch tiny problems faster than your average person. However, thanks for raising that issue.

You can only be lucky so long before the law of averages catches up to you, then there will be a disaster and you will be held accountable because you knew it was unsafe.

Ute, you need to try to clean your petcock. You may not be able to do so. If you cannot it needs to be replaced.

Sprite, fix that issue. It is only a band aid. As we all know, Band aids fall off.

BTW, don't ask me if I have a petcock. I do but, I only give them away if someone needs one. I never guarantee the function of them. I usually do this when someone buys something from me. They are way too unreliable used.

Glad to hear you bought a petcock. Just think of the possible disaster water heater in the garage, gas on the floor. Yikes! :2thumbs:

i also eliminated my piece of sh__ petcock and welded a barb fitting on.this was about a year ago and it works like a charm.i put a inline cutoff valve on it so the gas doesnt leak out.i just reach up under the plastic and cut it off when done riding.

Pretty much your only option. Also blow into it by mouth (if you can stand it) No compressed air it will blow it out.
