Crankcase breather question

Post by Ben L. »

Hello, I recently took off my stock air box for a UNI filter and I have a hose sticking out that was stuck in the airbox. I'm guessing this is the crankcase breather. What should I do with it? Plug it or leave it? Also does this affect how my ped runs?

Thanks in advance! :worship:

If it is a 2 stroke engine, it is NOT a crankcase vent as there can not be one for the 2 stroke to work.

Gearcase vent. S-shaped hose? What model is this. oh, I see it. SB50. Gearcase. Leave hose in but do not plug. It is a vent.

Re-read my edited post. Might check the manual for precise instructions about anything else. Good Luck, Ben L.

Greetings:

For most of us, it's been so long since we've even seen an airbox that we can't remember what vents where. Both the carb and the transmission have vents. Keeping water out of the gearcase while allowing for thermal pressure release was the reason for the line from out back. You can leave it poking up to the sky or artfully route it downward.

The carb has a couple of vents too. EPA probably required them to route to the airbox for re-breathing in a vain attempt to decrease by some fraction the Hydrocarbons liberated from these dirty little 'Smokers. Lots of riders keep a length of line attached to the carb vents to prevent water entry in the event of a really wet ride. Many just pull the lines off and Proudly Pollute.
