stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
I am trying to put a split throttle cable on my stock 2000 Honda elite S (de-restricted). BONE stock!
right now it only has the single cable.
I have a split throttle cable but i cannot get the single cable out of the carb cap.
I pull the spring back, detach the cable from the slide (put spring and slide in a safe place) and then try to take cable off of the carb cap but no luck.
theres some kind or c-clip retainer holding the cable to the cap.
anyone know how to get it off?
i want to run the split cable. I already have the adjustable output oil pump. just need to hook up the cable so it can move when i open the throttle.

Are you talking about the cap that screws to the carb

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
My experience with the cap is that it is a one time "snap-in" fitting. Once it is installed on the new cable it does not come off. That is my experience. You only get one by ordering a new complete carburetor, or a new throttle cable, that is to the best of my knowledge. Happy Trails!

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
Some are and some are not. I have a carb off and '84 Aero that is a one tine deal, but I also have a carb off an SB50 that is not. But if you are replacing the cable because it is bad, just muscle the old cable out of the cap. This is assuming you have already removed the slide from the end of the cable.bonesv wrote:My experience with the cap is that it is a one time "snap-in" fitting. Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
Yes I'm talking about the cap on the carb.
I did try to yank it off with no luck. I am starting to think that its a one piece setup.
when i look at the split cable from honda parts online it has the carb cap attached to the cable.
I already have a spare split cable at home and i dont want to order 1 from honda and it ends up NOT having the cap attached and then I have 2 worthless split throttle cables.
panyone every successfully remove the cable from the cap and the attach another cable to the cap.
I dont want to screw up the cap and have to buy another carb.

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
According to the parts manual the cap has no separate part number other than with the complete cable.
CABLE SET, THROTTLE 17920-GS7-325
But it is NOT cheap, retail list price is $51.41 my dealer will sell it to me at $38.25 but that does not mean yours will do that.

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
This is why the different models have different parts numbers for the split throttle cable because the carb cap. if you have a dremel cut it right above the brass on the cap be careful to cut just the housing and not the inner cable itself good luck

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
My experience so far has been that the caps will work on any other PA series carb.
So just order another cap.
TOP SET 16014-GK8-003 Retail $25.58

Re: stock throttle cable stuck in cap????
Greetings:
I'm batting about .750 in success rate removing the cap from the throttle. There's a TINY little c-clip around the cable end that sits in a groove inside the cap. There is a little hole somewhere in the cap that you can poke a mechanic's point into and try to compress the c-clip. Trial-and-error over time succeeds more than half the time in my case. However one I've had to resort to the Hacksaw...
