85 Spree CVT

Post by deuce217 »

So can somebody post a link to why the 85 spree coes not have a CVT style pulley on the rear... Is a snowmobile clutch not considered a type of CVT. :bowrofl: Feel free to flame, I am not sure exactly how my rear pulley works as I have not but my cover in half to watch it in operation.

The rear pulley on your spree acts more like a belt tensioner than a cvt.

The ratio of the spree's front to rear pulley ratio stays the same while you ride it.

If you have a 1986 or 1987 spree, you can fit in a crank from a se50 scooter, and use it's variator.

The down side to this is, the rear pulley in the spree does not line up, and the kicker cover will not fit .

I almost got it all worked out  I used a rear pulley from an urban express.

But I need a custom shaft to let it mesh with the spree gears.

I was going to build one of these up to. I actually have a new crank that goes into the honda pal with a variater. My problem is the same. On the pal it had a longer arm for the clutch so the belt was even with the drive face/driven face. I have been looking for one of these pal engines but they are suppppppper rare. I have only seen 3 and had no clue at the time what I had.

Mouse is there anyway you could find anything out on that certain pal engine with a variater??
