HELP! New to the Scooter world.
Hi all! First thing, I have an 86 Spree Iowa. The guy had it sitting for years. When I got it, the person hauling it had it laying on it's side. The engine seemed to be locked upbut I pulled the plug and the cylinder was filled with oil. I kicked it over and got out as much as I could. I hooked upa battery and the starter sounds horrible! It grinds really bad then catches then turns over the engine. So I cleaned the plug, sprayed a SMALL amount of carb cleaner in with the remaining oil twisted the plug in and I couldn't kick the engine over. Pulled the muffler and tried. I can kick it over if I push the starter and kick but one or the other alone will not do it. BTW, it did pop over 2-3 pops so I have hope. Any advice is welcomed. ![confused ](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Re: HELP! New to the Scooter world.
Low battery will cause your starter issue.
You need to pull the intake and drain the excess oil out of the crankcase. Since that is where the oil is coming from.

Re: HELP! New to the Scooter world.
I'll +1 to a good battery.
99% of the time the carburetor will need a VERY good cleaning and rebuild. The pilot jet on this scooter is VERY small and not removable so it makes the job more difficult.
It will take some doing to get all the oil out of the crankcase.

I had an engine like that once. I actually had to pull the jug and drain the crankcase to get it to run. I think you could do the same by pulling the oil pump out and hanging the engine up.

True but my way you don't have to remove the engine from the scooter.noiseguy wrote:I had an engine like that once. I actually had to pull the jug and drain the crankcase to get it to run. I think you could do the same by pulling the oil pump out and hanging the engine up.

Re: HELP! New to the Scooter world.
Ok, I got the oil out. It started and smoked really really bad. Now, it runs a little fast but doesn't smoke. Is there anything I should look for to make sure that the oil is getting injected in? I'm still a little worried that my 2 stroke iol is blue and the big puddle of oil was a golden color, but again, I bought it with no explainations on anything. It still kicks over kinda hard and the starter struggles even with a new battery.

Re: HELP! New to the Scooter world.
You may have burned the starter by cranking to get the oil out. Run premix in your tank and then pull the oil line off the intake manifold. It should pump a drop a minute or similar... it is a very low amount. If it looks like four stroke oil, hopefully they just filled the engine with it for storage. You can check your oil tank to be sure.
