The Oil In a '89 SB50P Elite Scooter Motor

Post by bwhigham »

I went through the service manual and I want to replace the oil in the engine. The manual just says to use honda approved oil...what the heck does that mean? I am pretty sure we are not supposed to put 2 cycle oil in the motor, but could someone tell me what kind of oil i put in the motor at the drain bolt on the motor?
Thank You,
Benjamin

You do NOT put oil into a 2 stroke crankcase like you do a 4 stroke. The 2 stroke oil is injected into the intake system and mixed with the gas. Oh and Honda always tells you to use Honda approved oil and then only approves their own oil. A sign of greed on Honda's part.

Are you talking about the gear oil behind the clutch cover?

That's not the engine. That is part of the drive train.

I bought 10w 40 oil and checked the level. The level was fine and the oil was clear..so I left it alone.

There is a bolt on the side of the back of the bike motor/transmission housing and if you remove the bolt, the oil should up to the level of the bottom of the bolt...if its not you simply add a little to it.

The engine and rear end are both in my truck but they are not the same. Just because the case extends back because of the suspension design, does not make the rear gears part of the engine.

What dies Honda call it? Engine oil? No, they call it transmission oil. Hence it is NOT engine oil and never will be.
