'94 Elite SR acceleration problem

Post by Carnie »

Running into the problem of my scoot lugging on take off. I always let it warm up before I ride but when I take off after letting it idle a while it acts like its going to bring the front wheel off the ground. Then it just stops and slowly takes off until I have reached 20+ speeds for 20-30+ seconds. Then if I slow down and repeat takeoff, it accelerates without flaw. Any potential diagnosises and remedies?

Worn rollers, rear center spring, belt. Either one of those or a combo of them are worn
Nothing like getting stroked!

I would agree with bakaracer as a preliminary diagnosis.

On another note, be sure to check all your lines (i.e. throttle cable, etc.) to make sure everything is connected the way it should be. Sometimes loose connections to the carb makes it act up.

The rollers are a bit worn so I figured that would attribute. Belt is stock and never replaced so that will also be replaced. Might as well get a spring too. Haha. All of my lines are good. That was the first thing I did when I got it; clean the carb and replace the lines because it had been sitting for four years. Thanks for the replies! I'll let you know when I find out more.

Nope. I just swapped in a Keli and there was no noticeable black ring.

Never mind. Just got off work and took a second look at the stock vari and it does have a bit of a ring.

Is it worth it to spend the extra bucks for a racing belt or is OEM just fine? What's the difference in material and performance?

If it helps, I plan on doing some extensive mods in the somewhat near future.

It all depends on what your preference is I guess. The kevlar belts are supposed to last longer. Personally I use Gates powerlink belts 20 bucks from honda

I use stock belts with no problems yet, they hold up fine at 70 mph.

Kevlar belts wear out the sheaves quicker.
