UNI filter setup
Recently bought an UNI pod filter. I got an 88 main to go along with it. I read alot and it seems like its a hit or miss situation obv i dont want it to run super lean. Any thought on where abouts i should be going with it would be much appreciated.
Re: UNI filter setup
With 4 strokes this crap can improve top end. With 2 strokes it is more trouble than it is worth for the rookie. You take a big chance of destroying your engine.

Re: UNI filter setup
ok so for the 2 stroke rookies, any advice? proper size jets, any special tuning?
Re: UNI filter setup
If your using the stock carb, run it with the stock airbox. The carbs that come on these bikes have a fixed pilot jet so changing the jet on it is not like how you do for the main jet is not possible. You can't just change 1 jetting circuit for the carb to work right when the airbox is removed.the carb was setup around the airbox design. Removing the airbox changes the whole carb jetting system, not the just the main jet.

Re: UNI filter setup
On a all stock se50 for example, you can get that bike to top out at around 55mph. That's just with a aftermarket variator upgrade and new belt. I do suggest when upgrading just the variator, you up grade the clutch shoe spring to a 1k and center spring to a 1k as the aftermarket variators have steeper and longer ramps than the stock one does.memberzs wrote:Thanks baka, any suggestion on a decent but (relatively) cheap carb?

Re: UNI filter setup
Greetings:
If you're staying with the stock 49cc displacement, there may be a little more power to be had with the UNI pod, but don't expect a huge difference. To exploit it safely, consider a 90 main while raising the slide needle to its uppermost position - clip in the lowest groove. 88 shouldn't be too far off ideal.
To Use that power, the engine needs taller actual or belt-assisted "gears" which is where Bakaracer's advice to obtain an aftermarket variator, springs and new belt comes in. Along with a larger (90/90 should work without issues) rear tire, the engine can then put its newfound thrust to good use. I'm not sure about 55 as Baka-san suggested, but 45 is certainly feasible with good compression and tuning.

Re: UNI filter setup
Thanks for the info guys much appreciated. As far as clutching mods go did you guys throw in a keli clutch to run the 1k springs or would the oem clutch work fine with the spring upgrades?

Greetings:
The stock clutch should be fine for stock-ish power. Spend the money on more important things. Even the expensive clutches for these scooters are too dang small. Big Power tends to overheat even the best ones with stop-and-go City riding.
