89 SB50P Elite 50...won't stop running

Post by bwhigham »

I have an 89 SB50P Elite 50 E scooter... Tonight I was driving the scooter to the store and it shut off fine with the red engine toggle switch at my first stop...10 minutes later, i went to walmart and it would not shut down with either the red toggle switch or with the key area.. what would cause this to happen? I had to shut it down my turning the idle adjust screw out till it shut down..

most likely the kill (black/white) wire near the key switch came loose.

I agree with traffic. Unless both switches failed at the same time, very unlikely at best, it has to be the connector on the black/white wire came loose.

I tested both switches and they both checked out...I made sure that they were connected properly and they were....what else could it be?

Black/white wire goes to the CDI. Did you check for a ground on the other side of the switch. If you do not ground the black/white wire, the motor will never shut off.

Have you bothered to look at the wiring diagram in the service manual?

I appreciate your honesty

Do you have a digital volt meter?

There is a wire plug near the key switch that has four wires.

Find it and get back to me.

Is there a grounding block on the scooter? Where is it located? Its not shown on the equipment diagrams..I followed the wiring diagram...there seems to be a block, but Id like to know where it is so I don't have to take off all the body panels to find it..
Thank You,
Benjamin
