petcock valve possibly bad

Post by lolo123 »

If a petcock valve is bad when you pull the fuel line off the carb should it drain the entire tank of gas. My 99 elite that i just put a 72cc bbk stock exhaust and airbox with a 88 main. It only goes 15 and gets to a certain rpm and wont go any farther i think its running really rich from the petcock valve not shutting off at all. Could this be my problem cause when i would go to try and tune the carb the only thing that would half * work was the idle screw adjustment

Sounds like the diaphragm is stuck open in the petcock. No fuel should flow without vaccum on the line. So if its constantly dumping fuel in your carb its going to flood it and not run properly. Try cleaning the petcock out.

That's what a float and float needle is for. The petcock is only for when the bike is not running and you don't have to have a manual shut off fuel valve.so if its running rich, its cause of something else.

Check to see if the bystarter is working right. Could be stuck open. Also where is the needle clip positioned? is the airfilter cleaned? Do a plug chop to see what it says.

should the needle position be set a litttle more leaner i havent check to see where its at now. Whats a good place to start position wise. the motor only get up to 220 degrees so thats runing really rich

Not that needle. Needle and seat attached to the float in the carb float bowl.

there is only 3 clip positions on the needle thats in the throttle slide. stock is in the middle. do you have a 85 jet? yours might need a smaller jet.

i think hes talkin about needle position clip in the slide of the carb. I havent checked that yet since i got the scooter. Ill take the carb apart tommorrow and inspect float and seat aswell. I will check bystarter tmrw too. Its a bummer to put all this work in this scooter and cant even get it to run right. So if i pull thte fuel line off the carb and it drains the entire tank that has nothing to do with getting to much fuel even if the petcock is bad it doesnt effect the performance at all? Running a 88 main stock airbox stock exhaust and running like * i hope someone can help. Another question if the fuel in the tank was really rich since i mix my own gas could this effect how it runs

if you put to much oil, the plug will foul out and the engine wont idle or run. try and take the outer airbox cover off and see if the motor revs up better. or take the filter out and put the cover back on.
