Reinstalling carb- where do the two hoses go on the bottom?

Post by Justin80 »

Cleaned the carb a couple months ago and I'm just getting around to reinstalling it. Where do the two hoses go attached to the bottom of the carb?

86 spree

I just had to move on. I eliminated both hoses. Hopefully they don't do anything because I'm not going through * again reinstalling the d*** carb. Somehow a bolt got stripped in the process but I think it'll be ok anyway.

New problem. And this is unreal. The fuel line... Doesn't reach anymore??? What the??

Image

That is where it goes, right? I hope I'm just trying to put it in the wrong place. I don't remember how all this hooks up. The shop manual doesn't show me and I cat find any pics. I'm in scooter *. :( its been months since I worked on this.

If you stripped a carb mounting bolt then it's not ok. Will cause a lean running motor, kaboom. The fuel hose can get to short if you removed the petcock and then tightened with the nipples pointing in the wrong direction. Looks like you could use new fuel line anyway

I haven't touched the petcock. Let's go over which nipples hook up to which lines. Anybody got a diagram?

Where I'm at now:

In terms of the stripped bolt, the long one, couldn't I just put a nut on the end if it since it sticks out? See pic

If you have enough clearance, yes. That's what I did on my Aero 80, except the one on the front.

The nipple dead center, with nothing conntected looks like the vac from petcock.

nipple on the carb is gas, nipple on the intake is fuel. THe line coming from the top of youre petcock is your gas line and needs to attach directly to the carb the line on the bottom of the petcock is your suction and needs to go tot the intake. also make sure your oil pump is hooked up with the clear tube going to the intake. also if your gas line is too short chances are u bumped your petcock the wrong way or your trying to install the air line to the gas which is WRONG.. so make sure u ahve the right lines going to the right places, and looks like you need new hoses anyways i got clear lines at oreiley's. clear lines are good because you can see what going on also wouldnt hurt to install inline filter and valve so you can turn off the gass and drain your carb for storage.

Seriously no one know's what is what? Its simple so here you go, I have the same setup. Nice and easy. Everyone is making it overly complicated. Oil goes to.... well the oil pump. The petcock comes from the bottom nipple on the petcock. And the gasoline, which is the braided line, which I suggest you replace as that is original and usually old and lets fuel evaporate due to cracks in the line. And it hooks to the side of your petcock.

For reference again, the fuel line is 1/4 inch. Common to many shops and cheap to buy.

I got that man and extra credit for the labeling but the red braided fuel line no longer is long enough to make it to that nipple. I have no clue why!?! lol I can get a new fuel line but I guess it should be longer. And I've never messed with the petcock!
