The size of the engine has nothing to do with the belt fitting or not.
Agreed, but maybe he meant fitting the powerband. On my elite E, the ax24 is long enough to offer higher top end speed but can't climb some of the hills it used to with the bando.
No case rubbing with the ax24 completely installed. During instalation, it would rub but the slack was taken up as the drive sheaves was torqued.
Forgive me for being the possible idiot. But will this belt work out for a non-variated engine? I am rocking an 87 spree, and I just threw on a gates 7240 which was a waste of money.

I bought an AX24 about a week ago from CostLess Auto Parts here in Vancouver, WA. It was a Goodyear brand and I had it put through a 'Thickness Caliper?' at the auto parts store before I paid for it. Have it checked for uniformity. Mine was a direct swap to the 86' Spree I ride. I had to clean the pulleys with emery tape to remove the old Bando residue / rub marks, but after that and a few drops of belt conditioner on the new AX24 it works like a charm. They will provide a small amount of rub at first but after about 5 miles at top speed most of that will settle / seat. Mine rides at the extent of the rear clutch halves when accelerating, and eventually seats lower into the pulleys as you begin to pick up speed.
