It will work great, just make sure you get a cylinder hone that will be the key to havening it work properly and breaking in the rings right. And be very careful when installing the rings on the piston, it is very easy to break one if you aren't using a piston ring installation tool. You can do it without the tool people do it every day so don't worry.

Okay thanks I got a nice can of carb cleaner to soak the piston in, hope it's not too destroyed.

The piston might be fine, soak it with the carb cleaner get the grooves good and clean and try it. An sos pad in the sink works well to get carbon off of a piston. The worst that can happen is you need to order an OEM piston and take it apart again and put the rings on the new piston and get some new circlips. When you assemble the top end get the gasket surfaces good and clean where the base gasket goes and soak the new base gasket with two stroke oil really well before you put it on. That way when you have to pull it apart again you won't destroy the gasket. I would get some gasket paper and trace the new gasket and cut one out and use the cut one on the scooter, then you won't have to buy another base gasket if you ever need one, you can just trace the original and cut one out cheap.

make sure to use .6mm gasket paper any thicker or thinner will change port timing

Hmm so I noticed there was no expander under the bottom ring after removal... I wonder if this was causing all the noise?

A little carbon in around that ring is all it takes for that expander to look like its not there, and have you scratching your head for a min.

The top of the piston was very black and carbonized it also looked to have tons of small little marks all over the central area as if maybe the piston was hitting the spark plug but I'm not for sure on that.
thats your pinging problem right there! Did you check to see if it was the right plug?

Yah, got the right plug in there now and I tried few different ones. However the last one I pulled out was an NGK BPR6HA without the S so that was a little strange. Same length though compared to the S plug.

Like a dumbass though I snapped the top ring trying to put the cylinder back on...... Live and learn I guess though as this was my first shot at engine work. I just used the old ring I had on there for the top one F#CK it can't see buying another set of rings for $26 after my idiocy.

Guess it's good to brake a ring on a spree instead of a v12 ferrari motor or something.

Just take things slow and dont force it. Make sure to oil everything with 2t when you assemble

Did that to my express last summer, I was too lazy to go out to the shed and get my ring installer and broke a brand new ring, had to get a set from england on eBay. So don't feel too bad about it. That set of rings was for my first oversize cylinder.

Yah hopefully it still runs okay. Haven't started it yet, I want to paint my wheels while I can get access to them.

Should I break it in soon or is it okay to wait a few months?

Also should I add a drop of oil in the cylinder before starting? I have a little extra mixed in the tank already.
