1986 Honda Spree Carb Question

Post by shadow622 »

Hello all,

I recently acquired a Spree, and it was running really bad and would stall above 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. I figured the carb was dirty. I pulled the carb, cleaned it up and thought I put everything back together properly. Except I seem to have a section missing a cable.

I also noticed that there was no air filter nor air filter cover.

Lastly, what type of oil is best for this little guy?

Thank you for the help,
Michael

first things first get a air filter and cover for it, honda gn2 ? is best, always used it on all my hondas, used cheaper oil in other 2 strokes and they never lasted/performed as anything that ive run on gn2.
A good toolkit is a hammer and a condom. If the hammer doesn't fix it, Use the condom to f**k it!

Yes... you are missing the carb bowl drain hose. No big deal. This directs the fuel when you crack open the drain screw, which isnt done that much. You can get a 3/16 gas hose and slap it on that nipple.

Two strokes have tuned exhaust and intake. Your Spree needs a stock airbox to really work properly. This is counter to normal 4 stroke thinking.

Would one of these UNI filters work?

It is too free flowing... you need that find that cover. Post in the for sale section that you need spree airbox cover. I would think someone has a spree parts scooter and will help you out. Would think $10 + shipping. Wish I could tell that that UNI would work. Once you get cover -- you will need to get a new air filter element - or you can buy flat stock and cut it fit in your spree airbox.

I would go to your nearest Honda store and you should be able to buy everything you need there, 2-stroke oil, foam filter, and a cover if they have it in stock otherwise they can order one.

Installing aftermarket air-intake stuff requires tinkering with the carb and resizing the jets. These little carbs are already picky as is so unless you have the time to invest in a project and take that carb off and on 100 times I would suggest going the stock route.

The airfilter elements are really cheap and come pre oiled its a no brainer. And try to find an air box cover its worth your time. It pretty easy to upjet and run it but its better allaround if you run it the way it was deigned trouble shooting is easier and you dont run the risk of it being too lean in off throttle situations, like when driving down a steep hill and backing off the throttle. Ive had good luck with mine upjeted and aftermarket filter but i put it back stock. Pod filters dont like rain ;-)
