1987 Honda Elite 50

Post by Hazmatt37 »

I am in need of a little help. I recently purchased an older 1987 honda elite 50cc scooter. It had been sitting for a long time so I went through the whole thing. It has a new ring and piston with great compression. New plug. New Carb. Clean oil and oil tank. So I have spark and compression. Not really sure if I'm getting enough fuel but it just turns over. I also can't tell if the choke is working properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This thing should run.

Yes I have spark, and yes there is fuel in the carb. That's why I'm so confused.

Also the spark plug is dry, it was getting oil but now it seems completely dry.

you may need to prime the motor with some gas oil mix ...

I have tried putting a little gas down the cyl. But it just popped a little, kinda like it tried to back fire.

Greetings:

The choke retracts with the engine off and cool, so it's always "working". The tiny hole that feeds fuel to it is sometimes blocked with dry fuel resin however. That's why we have the constant Mantra: Clean the carb again. If that's all good, have a look at the reeds once you plan ahead for replacement gaskets.

Ok, I bought a new carb but it has kind of an dried oil coating (don't know how to explain it better) its kinda like cosmoline (if you know what that is) Anyways I will take it apart an clean it. What am I looking for when I pull the reeds out? I've never had a reed problem and don't really know what to look for. Thanks for the info, keep it coming.

Alright this thing is close to getting the s*** beat out of it...here is what I have done: cleaned every part of this bike, it has new piston and ring (excellent compression) new plug, new carb and I cleaned it too, cleaned the oil pump and tank, filled with fresh clean oil, cleaned the gas tank and refilled with new gas, new gaskets all around, good vacuum, the carb has fuel it has spark it has compression, what else could be the problem...????? I'm going nuts..

Did you make sure the marks on piston rings are facing up?

Evilone, actually the person I bought the scooter from had the piston done. It has excellent compression but I am not sure about the ring?? If the ring was upside down, what does that do to it? Thank you guys for your input..!!!

I did rings on my 87 awhile back and had the marks facing down. It acted the same as yours is. Flipped them and it started right up. If everything else is good it's worth a shot to check.
