over rich

Post by Kenny_McCormic »

my 86 spree is running overly rich when i did a plug chop it was black and covered in oil

it runs ok with a j17lm spark plug a j8c would barley get it above an idle

and the needle clip is set on 1 not 5 not 4 not3 not 2 1!!!

i think my jet might be screwed up when i cleaned it last i think i might have acidently made it bigger

should i buy a new jet if so what size

this is the non iowa model and all stock other than shoving a drill bit up the muffler tip and drilling out the baffles and decarbonizing the muffler

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

check in manual (its in the forums) to see where the needle clip should be. Fix that first, then see what happens.

You are running the wrong plugs, for starters.

If you ran a drill bit, or any piece of metal through the idle jet the carb is probably trashed. You'll need a new one.

If you did the same to the main jet, you can replace that. Get a #68 jet from Honda or someone here.

D/l the service manual in tech docs for needle clip settings. Basically, it should be in the middle. Do you have the stock airbox in place.

The newer model carb only has 3 slots, use the center one.

higher # = bigger. Read Adv Tech Docs for more. 65 or 68 is stock.
