1994 honda elite SA50P Bogging down when throttle applied

Post by JStok »

Hello,
I have a honda elite. When I drive it, it Boggs down after quarter throttle and only goes 14 mph max. I put a new coil on it and it does the same. I was thinking of putting a similar Chinese cdi box on it (with the same prong arrangement). Would that work? Would that make it so it does not bogg down and goes faster? I don't need It to be 'hopped up' I just need it to be able to go 25 mph.

Yes, I have done all of those. I think after a certain speed, the spark can't keep up with the amount of gas the engine is getting.

My elite used to do the same thing. Make sure you cleaned the carb REALLY WELL! A good carb dunk works best, make sure the pilot is clean. What size jet are you running in the carb? Have you cleaned the fuel strainer and have you installed an inline fuel filter? If your gas tank is dirty, even after cleaning the carb it could be dirty yet again due to gunk getting into it from a dirty gas tank.

Tell us that you have stock / unmodified air filter box on it with a new filter that has been lubed.

If it is not and your carb is indeed clean... it is possible that your bystarter is not closing properly (broken - open) and is flooding your bike.

I would also get a compression reading... it helps us ensure that everything in the cylinder is proper and that you are not chasing your tale.

And even if you put a new plug in it.... it could be bad, stuff a new NGK plug into her.

Once we get this thing running 25 MPH... we can help you destrict your 'P', its not too bad and will get up to 35 MPH. Just requires that you grind off a restriction washer in your exhaust, new SR oil pump (or some have zip-tied the current oil pump to full open), knock out a small plastic tab in the air box, and pulling off a washer assembly off the back of your variator. Cost $0 if you opt to keep current oil pump.

Please report back...
I'm more than happy to explain it to you. I'll even draw you a picture! But I can't understand it for you.

I don't even think I have a filter on it now (I probably should).
Is there anyway to check and/or fix the bystarter? I'm assuming that is the auto choke.
I think it has an autolight plug in it now and it would be cheap enough to put an NGK in it.
I wish I had a compression tester. How much do those cost? I've used one at school but don't own one.

The 'sweet spot' on the throttle is a quarter throttle and anything past that slows you down.
I ordered a racing cdi for cheap money so hopefully that may be the problem.
Thank you so much for your time!

It starts right up so I'm not sure about the bystarter. Maybe it's stuck closed.
