crank shaft nut keeps falling off

Post by crimespree »

Its happened twice now and I think if it happens again there won't be any splines left to put it on. What do you guys use to lock it down. Red lock tite, lockwasher? Jb weld? I can defiantly crank it down tight with some of my climbing rope in the cyl keeping it from doing a full stroke

dont do that .Hold the drive face with a strap wrech or oilfilter remover and tourqe it to factory specs maybe with a little red lock tight .youll put your crank out of true by trying to hold the piston

I personally use the Blue lock tight just cause I take it on and off so frequently.

Greetings:

Ditto on never losing one yet, and I DON't use an impact. I'd suspect an issue with the splines; If the outer pulley sheave isn't seated correctly, the nut feels tight but it gets loose once the sheave settles back into its correct position. Hopefully you haven't mangled the sheave, or worse - the crankshaft. Confirm by carefully removing the belt cover once the engine is idling. Look for a wobbly pulley.
