Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
i'm getting there but I keep second guessing myself lol. i'm still having trouble with "lean/rich" issues, still don't quite grasp the concept. I drained the 2 stroke oil and brought it to my friend and he said hes pretty sure the guy was using marine oil or really low grade. so I filled it back up with gn2 from Honda. also in my dirtbike I was told to use supreme grade gas and nothing lower, should I be using regular or supreme in scooters?patthesoundguy wrote:With all the info here, you can sort that scoot out yourself in no time

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
just did all but compression test. running better but still a rough starter. it was working good when I got it home, went inside and my dad was messing with the little screws on the side of the carb. air fuel or what ever. I have no idea what he did or how to make it work right again. it almost feels like the little screw for idle is worn out cuz when I adjust it the smallest bit out of no where itll go full throttle.

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
ok as far as lean and rich go, you use the air screw to adjust that right? and if so which way goes lean and which goes rich?

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
Pulling the plug after running it normally will not tell you much as the oil in the mix will turn it black or brown. You need to do what's called a plug chop to get the right data. When does it run rough? Does it idle poorly or is it at full wide open throttle that is rough?

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
You were asking about the adjustment screws on the carb, here's the lowdown. Likely on your carb there are two screws an upper and a lower. The upper screw is usually the idle speed screw it holds the throttle open to keep the idle at the speed required, probably 1800 rpm like the spree and express I'm guessing. The lower screw is the idle air mixture it adjusts the proper air fuel ratio for idle and up to about 1/4 throttle. You turn the idle air screw out to go lean at idle and in to go rich. You can't likely get thew shop manual for that thing but setting the idle up properly im betting is the same process as the spree so I would down load the spree manual and set the idle mixture and idle speed as per the manual.

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
I put new plug in ran it for 2 days and checked. what is a plug chop? starting up it wants to die out and every now and then at WOT it bogs down for a sec then catches back up. sorry if im not being very descriptive Ive been working on giving as much details as I can.

Re: got a second scooter and its running rough.
Yeah pretty much, but... You have to start with a new plug. So warm the motor up with old plug, install new plug, go right up to WOT bout 1/4 1/2 mile and while holding WOT hit the kill switch. Roll to stop pull plug and read at the very base of the porcelain. I would do the idle air mixture set up first though. If you can post some pics of the carb and airbox and such it help to see how its setup. Then we can see what kind of starting enrichment setup it hasDingus Khan wrote:ok ill do the plug chop test. so basicly warm up, blast down the road a half mile and turn the key off?
