1991 Honda NH80
Hi all,
I am looking to purchase a Honda NH80 that is 500km / 300miles away.
A few quick questions. I want to fly there and ride it home! Just the adventure I need before Christmas.
What is the spark plug number?
Were can I get a belt for it? eg what length and width is a standard belt?
How hard are they to change?
What tools would I need to bring to do this on the road side?
What are the common spanner sizes needed?
How big is the fuel tank on these things and roughly what mileage can you get on one?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Ayden

G'luck with that Ayden...
The 1991 NH80 was never sold in the USA.
Your proposal to ride the scooter 300 miles is ambitious.
Many, MANY other items should be considered before undertaking such a long trip on an 80cc scooter.
Tyres and tubes, cables, brakes, lights, gear oil, air filter, fuel and vacuum hoses...the list goes on.
Your chance of completion is slim unless the current owner has updated all service issues recently.

Re: 1991 Honda NH80
I agree with Mike. Thats a long walk if it croaks 20miles into the ride. Im crazy but that's somthing even I wouldnt do. With all the unknowns in the mix the potential for epic failure is huge. Is the 91 NH80 the same as its 80s counterparts. If so forget even finding a new belt for it let alone changing one on the side of the road. A flat tire on that thing would be a real pain to try and fix on the side of the road. I would only attempt such a ride if I had gone through the machine and made sure it was completely serviced over a period of at least a week of service and test rides and a visual inspection of the condition of the cylinder. And even then I wouldnt do it with having a spare coil and cdi along with a tire pump and everything needed to repair tires on the road. I think shipping the scooter would be easier.motormike wrote:G'luck with that Ayden...

Re: 1991 Honda NH80
That is a tall order!! I agree that would be insane on a machine that has not been gone over and serviced. Are you sure it is a 1991 nh80? They stopped production of the nh80 in North America in 1985. Something doesn't seem to be right with the year.

hondafan : Production of NH80 continued in Japan, Europe, Australia, etc. for years longer than here in USA...

You are right, that's why I indicated North America in my sentence. Odds are it wouldn't have been brought over from one of the countries you indicated but you never know.

The spirit is alive and well, but the words of caution are justified in this situation.
There is a big difference between taking on an adventure, and setting oneself up for failure...

Re: 1991 Honda NH80
A quick update.
The spirit of adventure is alive and well! The scooter has been paid for. Now that the silly season is over I will organise heading down south to get the scooter. I will drive down with a trailer and ride the scooter home having the option of trailering her home if it all hits the proverbial fan! I cannot wait. Picture riding the scooter on a warm summers day through Lord of The Rings country.

Re: 1991 Honda NH80
Well ladies and gents we depart my hometown tomorrow (Saturday) at 6am bound for Cromwell NZ 300miles away. Then it will be a long but rewarding slog home. A few issues that I might face - on top of the already mentioned ones- are the high gusting winds at the moment and any rain. Hopefully it stays nice and warm with a tail wind! We can't have it all.
Pics tomorrow night assuming I survive.
