Big Bore Kit?
I have a '97 Honda Elite SA50 with a ruined cylinder and piston so I'd like to get a big bore kit. I'm looking for something cheap that will work as the body isn't very nice on this elite.
I found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/performance-50m ... 75&vxp=mtr
Can anyone share some input on this kit?
I know I'll need to get a bigger main jet, but what size is?

I don't know much about this kit but there is another member selling pretty much the same one for like $100 shipped and he's in the states so you won't have to wait weeks for it. Check the wanted section out was only a couple days ago that he posted.

For another 30$ you can buy a lot higher quality Malossi cast kit.
Shoot me a message if interested.

Thanks for the responses. I'd go with a malossi if my elite was in better shape. I can't see spending anymore than absolutely necessary on this one though. If I find a better elite then I'd sell my current scooter and go that route.
I just need it running again as cheap as possible. Will a SB50 bbk work on an sa50?
Like this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-SB50-ELIT ... 8b&vxp=mtr

Okay, thanks. I thought that likely wouldn't work out.swimmingfree wrote:no ... i think you have a 12 mm wrist pin and the other has a 10 mm wrist pin...

I'm coming closer to wanting that malossi kit. At $160 for the kit shipped plus finding a bigger main jet (85?), it'd be around $170-175 to get my junker elite running again. The chassis on my elite is cracked and has many other problems, so as much as I'd like to upgrade things, I just can't see doing it with this one.
I found a used jug, piston, rings, and gaskets on ebay for a combined total of $84. The jug looks questionable though, but I bet it'd run for a good long while. Any input would be appreciated though.

Re: Big Bore Kit?
if your going to get use jug it need to be hone out a little and as for the piston get new rings it will be worth the money.... the gaskets look wright by my eye.... the jug ( the jug bay or may not be good ) and piston come to 59.00 and shipping is another 17.50 that 76.50 i think rings are about 23.00 and you shood get new ristpin keeper as well about 2.00 that a toddle of 101.50 and the gasket is 6.00 that a toddle of a 107.50.... and it is a used top end and how knows how long it will last?????

Re: Big Bore Kit?
Greetings:
Hmm... Anybody else notice that there's a case-half gasket included in that set?
The 1997 U.S. Elites don't use one, but I'm not sure about the Dio models that weren't sold here. It's kind of important, as it raises the possibility that some of the other gaskets won't fit either - particularly the base gasket shown, whose boost port cutout seems a little big.
If you just want to get it running to show a buyer, go stock and cheap by all means. Gaskets should be available from Honda dealers the next day - no shipping charges.
On the other hand if you intend to ride the thing, consider Eftie's Malossi Iron setup - the gaskets come with it and it definitely will fit and should last a long time. Less work and fuss to install and Faster, too.

Re: Big Bore Kit?
^^besides you can always keep your engine and sell the rest of it later.
As Mr Wheelman points out if you're just getting it running to get it of it later, then it's understood why you're going the least expensive route... but also consider another point that you may have overlooked which is if you're careful in building the engine right, you can always keep the engine and part out the rest later. I've put a lot of work on the current engine that I own so it'll probably stay with me for a long while... it's current chasis is the 3rd reincarnation.
Either way, I think it's outstanding to get another moped/scooter up and running for someone's enjoyment
