quick question on driven pulley operation

Post by patthesoundguy »

ImageHow free moving should this assembly be moving when the spring and clutch are removed? Mine is moving fine just feels feels old grease tight. I'm wondering if I should pull it apart and service it and repack with fresh grease. I feel it will work better if I do that. 29 year old crusty grease can't be as good as nice clean parts with fresh grease. Opinions?

Yes, use amsoil racing lube. I forget what its called at the moment but its thick and tacky. That old grease is probably clumped up and doing nothing.

I totally will do that. On further inspection I ccould see in the back. Of one of the bearings the grease wasn't doing much. I'll figure out how it comes apart tomorrow with the manual in hand. :geekdance:

the spacer that the spring sits on just slides off with a little help from a screw driver then remove the pins and slide off the drive face clean and reassemble .you could smooth out the sharp angle in the grooves making movement a tad easyer.

Wow thanks for the tip Pauly :-) I have the manual open and I totally see what you mean. I'll pull that apart tomorrow likley :-) I have a feeling we all service the variator and forget about the driven pulley because it is such a closed assembly. And with out a 39mm socket it's a total pain to disassemble. The $15 for the 39mm socket was well worth the money.

Got that pulley all serviced today and took pics along the way. Its a breeze to do and is worth the time. That thing works sooooo much better. I'll put together the pics and write up the walkthrough when I have the time over the next few days.
