I bought an old 97 elite SA50 off a neighbor for 30 bucks recently, and when I bought it the battery was dead. I bought it for my father and neither of us are really automobile or scooter savy, and when looking at the battery terminals we noticed a little hook near the positive side (see picture : http://i.imgur.com/RpxSPOv.jpg)
does both the positive and negative side need to have that hook for it to have connection to the moped? or are the positive and negative terminals already the things screwed on the battery? sorry for such a silly question. we just want to get this thing road ready!
question about hooking up a new battery

Re: question about hooking up a new battery
It appears your battery cables are already attached, the red wire in your hand appears to be something the previous owner added, also it appears to have two additional wires added ( the ones with clear insulation) .
Look the scooter over, perhaps it has some added on lights, LEDs, radio, GPS, cig lighter, ETC. Many owners add accessories to personalize their rides.
The relay on top of the battery ( possible starter relay) looks to have a hole in it's case, if that is true, the relay could fail due to moisture/ corrosion.

Re: question about hooking up a new battery
Greetings:
I would add that any time you hook a hot wire to the + terminal, it should have a fuse installed early in its course. Otherwise a malfunction in whatever it powers can cause Smoke and Fire. Inline fuses can be found at any autoparts store.
